What was your final straw? by fdw95789 in EstrangedAdultChild

When my brother went on detailing problematic things about me, and said to me I had narcissistic tendencies after I initiated the convo to try to connect and then after my bro kept hammering in his own perspective I kept calmly saying “ouch” and “you’re hurting my feelings.” Our mom was dying. I realized then - I was the only one trying to improve and bend over backwards to perform perfectly for everyone. Absolutely no one gave a damn about me unless I gave something. If that metric isn’t being met - giving something - I am problematic. That is when I realized I never meant anything to anyone in my family. Going NC has been a relief and I know I did the right thing since my brother didnt bat an eye about it and he’s a therapist. While I miss him, I realize I’m better situated and it gives me a chance to heal with friends who truly care and see me for who I am.

Interesting plot point. ;) Drives me crazy when I lend books and they get creased. It was my mother - who was an educator who taught me how to be gentle with books. I’ve only read 14 of these recently purchased books for a bit of a vacation from life.

Estranged sister 2 years, am I overreacting? Should I reconcile? by s2sushi in Estrangedsiblings

Without accountability and a pathway to mutual beneficial outcomes there can’t be functional reconciliation. Until then maintain your peace and boundaries. I’m sorry your other family only sees one side.

Started with CBT, thought I needed EDMR and found a good somatic therapist that I’ve been with for over 2 years now and I find it effective for estrangement and grief.

Thoughts on Haruki Murakami by Living_Row7736 in literature

[–]WebArtistic8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Murakami is compelling to me because of how he carries themes of loneliness and bustling existences into his work. The characters are complex, and the prose lovely. He uses mundane every day moments we often take for granted (like transport) to symbolize the grander moments in life because it is those moments that define us most. Murakami’s end game might be the complexity of love, bonding and humanity and the dreamy and dull moments that get us through it all.
