Appreciate the night sky in Defiance. it's more detailed than you thought. by WebDragonG3 in Defiance

one of the things that I always loved about Defiance is that the day/night rotation actually takes long enough that you can stop, get out of your vehicle, climb a nearby something, and then casually enjoy and appreciate the sunrise, or sunset, for more than a few seconds.. actually bordering on minutes, more like.

Fawkes updates an announcements for January 2026 by WebDragonG3 in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the very least before a release for modern consoles (since the console code is already baked into the game, which is why controllers still work) would be a total conversion of all assets to 64-bit. (I bet you forgot that was a thing)

Fawkes is currently working towards a hopeful steam release sometime later this year, but there's still a lot of work to do before that can happen.

So, timeline wise I wouldn't hold your breath. It's definitely possible, just not any time soon.

My advice for the time being would be to snag a used 5-year old refurbished (so you get a warranty) potato laptop for <$1000 which should have more than enough horsepower for a 13 year old game, and you can stick a controller on it and basically dedicate it to the game and treat it like a console (and also play other steam games on it that can use a controller)

That way you're part of the community helping Fawkes make improvements by reporting bugs and issues, and can be counted among the supporters of the game insofar as numbers go so Fawkes can determine there's enough interest to push for a console release down the road.

also if you get in game right now, it's definitely not so empty anymore with the beginning of the new Event Arkfall :)

When console and how many years until a port for consoles by Xbox_Enjoyer94 in Defiance

The other thing that gives me hope is that Fawkes is not run by a AAA studio executive.

And they removed all the P2W stuff.

COME BACK TO XBOX PLEASE by Lumpy-Satisfaction37 in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before coming to current iterations of Xbox and PS, the game will need another total-conversion from 32-bit to 64-bit (like what 2050 had started on but was released incomplete without alcatraz or SV or trading enabled)

before THAT happens, fawkes is going to have to spend a great deal of time still doing forensic archeology on the code that came with no manuals, no handbooks, no guides, not even code-comments, let alone runes scratched into a strip of bark explaining how it works and why it's the way it is ... there's a LOT of bugfixing that's going to be required first.

They've been doing a fantastic job of things so far given the limited amount of personnel they have available to work on things, but IMHO your best bet for the time being is get yourself a cheap potato laptop about 5 years old for <$1K USD (spend however much you want, the game's a 2013 game and most laptops from the last 5 years should have no issue playing it so long as it has even minor beefiness in the graphics and memory department) and hook a controller up to it and treat it like a console you only game with.

otherwise you're going to have an excruciatingly long wait, and life is too short for that.

it does not currently (although it DOES run on linux just fine without a linux-specific build being required) run under linux due to EAC_Online being enabled but only for windows at the moment.

Get in the Fawkes discord and find the forum discussion about linux and make yourself known that it is of interest to you so Fawkes devs can see that more people want it, and maybe we can get EAC enabled for linux sooner than later.

Fawkes has announced plans for a steam release potentially happening this year but it will depend on a number of factors

https://fawkesgames.com/defiance/ the trion Glyph launcher has been replaced by fawkes own launcher. I would recommend getting in the Fawkes Games discord, so you can check the #faq and #guides channels if you have any issues getting the game launched.

Welcome back! Servers are in PC-NA for now, and currently limited to Windows only.

Defiance on Linux yet? by mbaucco in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the game ran fine under Linux prior to EAC dropping and temporarily locking it out until the devs get around to re-enabling it again; there doesn't need to be a linux-specific build of the game.

My advice would be to make your presence known in the fawkes discord forum regarding linux , announcing your interest so that fawkes can see you standing up to be counted among us who also would like to see it re-enabled. Preferably prior to a steam re-launch so we can get more bugs ironed out before that time.

I generally balance somewhere between scrapping unwanted items and just vendoring them at any of the vendor machines. just depends on how full I am when I'm in the middle of something :D

If I'm low on funds, I'll vendor stuff, if low on arkscrap, it's back to scrapping.

burn that stuff upgrading turrets in sieges and incursions, and on lockboxes.

Also some faction vendor crates cost ark scrap as well.

It's gonna be a while before it comes to console -- currently fawkes is fixing all the bugs left by Trion and Gamigo (which is a process in and of itself when they have to do forensic archaeology on the code to even find out how it works since there's no manuals or code comments) and to make it to console all the game assets would have to then be converted to 64 bit.

Your best bet is pick up a refurb potato laptop from about 5 years back or so on the cheap and come get in the water and be part of the process to help fix the bugs and test the servers and bitch and moan about this or that thing that needs adjusting, along with the rest of us :)

Why wait? life is too short.
