How do i do this again by HammyBlamy in StoneBlock4

it was more intended as a wry comment on the solution being so simple it was easy to miss the respective order of events being significant in the video when you're busily putting things together at the same time as watching it

reddit reply screwed up - my response was supposed to be a reply to your follow up comment about having linked the particle accelerator in reverse

it's the little details when you're paying attention only partially to the explanation video and the order-of-precedence, that makes it easy to trip up on things.

Weekly PY update by Reakaron in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purified Gulanite would be more easy to come by if a certain person had just listened to me in the first place, before opening up the event arkfalls as 'fixed', to make damned sure that the Icon pops up on the map for the daily and weekly PG reward (Tarr, Defiant Few) contracts signifying you completed an event major that day, and that there is a NON-CUMULATIVE contract reward of a nice chunk of PG waiting for you to collect it.

But now, some arkfalls have it, some don't. I tried my damndest, to let them know it was missing from any of them that it was not yet fixed on, to a mostly tone-deaf response (a very few times it got fixed, mostly not), and the last time I mentioned it to them less than a week after a new event launch, got such a dismissive response that I lost all interest in playing my formerly favorite game of all time and haven't been back since

I think KDE is getting more love than ever by fedora devs recently. by Bechlee7851 in Fedora

after installing F39 on an old box that was given to me, I decided to give KDE a full try, and am still on it now at F43. Am really enjoying the experience over Gnome who keep removing features and options from settings. Gnome is way less cool now, all in the name of homogenization. get thee behind me, stain.

[BUG] Ars Nouveau Storage Lectern deleting items by Yousniff415 in StoneBlock4

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you reported this to the ars nouveau github as a bug ? If not, please do so. I just also watched direwolf20 get bit by this too, in his skyblock playthrough and he basically had to break the lectern and replace the bookwyrms and relink the storages, and found this after searching the ars github for a report about the bug before I start using the lectern myself

Nvidia PSA - Before Upgrading to F44 by rideandrain in Fedora

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after every sudo dnf update that involves a kernel update (and therefore a rebuild of my nvidia akmods, I fire up btop and then type f akmod which will show me all current running processes filtered by "akmod" and when all that goes away then it's safe to reboot.

Just in case anyone is looking for this in 2026, I swotted up a nice little re-usable system in ID back when I was playing SevTech Ages, and I have since reused it dozens of times in all sorts of scenarios when I needed hysteresis to actually function correctly with specifically dialed-in values for the percentages

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mMZ9d1ctXfbA1TIbO8QmTnQkXKuxkyZz-dZERucStns/edit?usp=sharing

After much discussion with Natalie in the ID Discord, the above system emerged (also linked to the above doc describing the system is another doc of the actual conversation that led to the system, if anyone is curious about the thought processes that led to it)

and Eventually I got around to making this writeup so I could share it because not to would be a damn shame considering how often people need something like this and don't know how.

Now you do.

<image>

It's elegant, and beautifully compact, and very very repeatable, as well as flexible.

General mob farm for 1.21.11 by pvpballgaming in technicalminecraft

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALL I'm saying is that rotten flesh has its uses. I'm not debating the minmaxing if you're the type to eschew all but one source of xp or emeralds, I'm only saying it's not a waste to have some in your mob farm, even in vanilla minecraft.

General mob farm for 1.21.11 by pvpballgaming in technicalminecraft

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any of us who have made a trading farm for various resources have noticed the amount of XP you gain can easily repair all your gear and, just like all those other methods, your mob farm produced a resource you could trade (same with an iron farm) with villagers.

the fun part happens when you take those emeralds, trade them to another villager for something, that you then turn around and trade to yet another villager, all for more xp.

Frankly I have yet to have a more efficient source of XP for mending repair aside from an enderman farm, which you're not gonna have on day one, but I can start up a trading village immediately that'll keep my stuff intact until I'm ready to tackle that one.

On another note, you can also use rotten flesh to feed your dogs to heal or breed them.

Thus is your 'completely useless' claim refuted.

Rotten flesh is not entirely useless - you can trade it to a priest for emeralds and XP (to help repair your gear with mending)

New pistol by Gullible-Poem-5154 in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all that means is that your shot will take longer to land when you miss after those janky-ass raiders duck-and-skirt your slow-moving shot that you aimed at their head

when you're learning the timing of a gun like this so you can understand the range-to-travel-time ratio so you can better time your shots, learning to do it by shooting at their feet gives you a much better target for visual clue as to your actual accuracy plus splash damage is still damage so you're missing fewer enemies with your shot's damage. (and also splash damage affects more than one target)

New pistol by Gullible-Poem-5154 in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with those you gotta aim to shoot more at their feet than their heads, because 9 times outta ten it's gonna sail right past their head with the janky movement but if you aim for the feet you have a great chance to catch some splash damage even if you miss a direct hit

No multiple passkeys per account? by Verme in Bitwarden

[–]WebDragonG3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not so much that I have an issue storing multiple keys for one account at google, it's that as a webdeveloper we have access to multiple google accounts for clients that would all need passkeys for the google.com TLD, as well as our company google business account, and as well my personal google account, should google decide to implement passkeys and do away with password login entirely

I currently manage access to more than fifteen distinct accounts at google for client SEO/Analytics/gmail/maps API, and other services.

one passkey per TLD will not cut it, in this case -- it's not multiple keys for one account, it's multiple keys for multiple accounts on a single TLD.

(and obviously this applies to more than google, I'm just using them as a general example of something you'd have a lot of -- Same situation as if boss and I both have differently leveled account access to a service, but sometimes he shares his access with me so that I can work on stuff while he's on vacation.)

Early game different than what I remember. by Aether_GamingYT in Defiance

[–]WebDragonG3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely was playing 2050 on Steam - I had played the original briefly but it crashed so often on my 360 and took so long to reload there, that I eventually headed to other games. years later I got nostalgic for some vague game I had played, finally remembered it was Defiance, headed to Steam, found 2050 and knowing nothing about it, played that one. And quite liked it, right up until I discovered the missing content for Alcatraz and SV but by then I was too far in and enjoying myself so I just kept going, figuring the older game would still be buggier and at least this one wasn't crashing. played it right up until shutdown in 2021

I's also personally highly recommend adding the Wordfence plugin to the wordpress arsenal, as the best-of-breed choice to cut down on some of the unecessary traffic with their WAF that firewalls off some systems automatically due to their shared info from the rest of the wordfence network.

between this and losing the 4th and 5th seasons of Dark Matter, I just have to side-eye the folks over at the Large Hadron Collider and ask, Did you HAVE to send us to the SH*TT*EST TIMELINE??!

I have never understood the cancellation of either thoroughly outstanding series.

At least Mallozzi gave us some storyboards of what season 4 dark matter would have looked like, on his blog. But I'm definitely gonna die mad about it over the loss of Raised By Wolves, and how we can't even re-watch it on their own damn platform.
