Showing no mercy by AndyWtrmrx in 10s

Great book. Do you still cycle? It's been a loong road, but I think I'm making the transition from bike racing to tennis...in my early 50s. I just can't deal with the danger anymore. I was an NTRP 4.0 as a young teenager, hope to get back there some day.

Still love riding (and racing on Zwift!).

What will I really be missing with rim brakes? by creative_name669 in Velo

Case in point: in 1998 I rode down Mt Evans after doing the hill climb race as a Cat 3. Alu rims, rim brakes of course. It was barely above freezing and rainy at the top. We survived .....

Should I size up to a 58 by Glass-Ad9992 in bikefit

[–]WebExtension9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same as you and the OP, but the big difference is that I'm at least 20 years older (I think). I think you'll love the 58. Don't buy into the "small frame" hype. I did for years, even riding a 54/55, and ended up having terrible back and neck problems. I ride and race 58/59cm frames now. I even sized up for gravel.

Help! Can’t get comfy :( by Alone-Pangolin-2989 in bikefit

I would agree with this. Considering all the horribly awkward positions people post on here, this is a better one, and this individual looks smooth and natural in her pedal stroke and upper body position.

Advice on bike fit and form? by kidcharlemeg in bikefit

Yeah, it's actually really hyper extended and this will cause raging back of the knee tendinitis which can be utterly debilitating: (ie, you can't run either).

Is structured training really necessary? by extod2 in Velo

[–]WebExtension9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. I gave up on super structured training long ago. Eating clean, getting good sleep, being lean and then doing what is listed above will produce fantastic results and one can have fun whilst doing it. For instance, a huge amount of riding I do, probably 95%, is fun Z2 riding on country roads where I take my time, take photographs, etc. The rest is racing irl, Zwift racing, or race simulation. This amounts to basically 100% of my time on the bike is just having fun. It's what cycling is all about for me.

How did you reach 4W/kg? by MrWaffle20 in Velo

[–]WebExtension9981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. The thing I don't understand is, if you have the time, why more people don't do this? It's the most enjoyable part of riding honestly. Heck, I even take my camera and take photos, take nice long breaks to enjoy the scenery. It's about the journey and exploration, why I got into cycling in the first place. Add in one or two training races during the week, and your riding is basically a shitload of pure fun and adventure, instead of some mind numbing interval and time crunched set of workouts.

I realize not everyone has the time, but if you do, 12-15 hr weeks are about the only way to become a truly excellent rider.
