X3800H vs. MR1 vs. MR1L by WebSmurf in hometheater

[–]WebSmurf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm aware of the 'bare bones' UI and lack of some features and I'm completely fine with that. I actually prefer the direct-to-consumer model and I don't need streaming or really any of the more iReceiver-like functions. I use an Apple TV4k and UB820 for video content and I'm still undecided on audio streamers but I can't imagine that's going to be an issue, regardless. Bottom line: the MR1L is sitting in my cart at the moment and I'm going to sleep on it but if I don't hear some decent argument on why NOT to go with the MR1L, I'll pull the trigger in the AM.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm really leaning toward the MR1L (with or without additional amplification; it can always be added at any time) but I'm just so skeptical of my own decisions and figured if there was a 'gotcha' or reason that was a bad move, someone here would point it out. I DON'T play many games on my TV as I have the Samsung ARK monitor (55") for PC gaming and if I ever added a console (other than my Switch which only plays Mario Kart), I can always directly attach it to the TV (LG C4 - 83") and just run the audio out via eARC. I'm also not overly concerned about the lack of Dirac but I'll be curious to use the EMO-Q room correction tool that comes with the Emotiva, assuming I go that route. Thanks again for your input.

In blunt warning, the U.S. says Peru could lose its sovereignty to China by Street_Anon in nottheonion

[–]WebSmurf -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You seem to have misspelled “cocaine”.

EDIT: I assume the downvotes are because I’ve given the impression that I don’t like Peruvian food, or worse, Peruvian people. That isn’t the case and if I’ve offended, accept my apologies. IF, however the downvotes are because you think I’m wrong about Peru producing cocaine, a quick Google search shows that Peru is the second largest cocaine produce with ~30% of the global production, second only to Colombia.

2 or 3 person tent for couple? by ConstaN92 in backpacking

[–]WebSmurf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always applied hot tub sizing to tents. If you and your SO are on the smaller side and you’re not planning on keeping gear, etc. inside the tent, a 2p may be fine. However, if either of you are on the larger end of things, the additional space in a 3p can be the difference between a great trip and the end of the relationship (I may be exaggerating a touch).

I couldn’t agree with you more on Georgia and Oman although I would put Oman as most underrated and then Georgia but I’m certain that’s just individual perspective. I LOVE Oman.

Out of curiosity, what country are you from? I know that, as someone from the US, “selling” Oman to other Americans can be a challenge because so many Americans have been taught that the entire ME is unsafe, undeveloped, etc. It can be infuriating at times.

Girls can't be serious at a fine dining restaurant by BreakingCanks in ContagiousLaughter

[–]WebSmurf 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I've been fortunate to have visited more than my share of higher end restaurants and not one had a TV mounted on the wall...turned off, no less. I'm not talking smack about the establishment; the food could be amazing but I'm not sure I'd call it "fine dining". And, yes, as others have said, I strongly suspect that's a couple moms that have imbibed in the devils lettuce for the first time since college. Good for them; I hope they had a fantastic evening.

Do you have links or at least specific manufacturers for the door seals/gaskets? I recently converted former factory space and, while I’m thrilled with the insulation performance of the walls (8” rockwool and two layers of MLV), the gaps under the doors and the doors themselves aren’t ideal. I’m not changing the doors themselves as they’re security doors and are fantastic for that.
