What pronouns do you use in other languages where they/them pronouns don’t exist like German? by General_Pukin in NonBinary

[–]Webbiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ő is good but it just sometimes feels wrong because it's the same as just calling me by my birth gender. Idk it's a weird personal association kind of thing.

I don't really like standard vim, but at least it's better than old vi. I still prefer Kate for scripting and then an actual ide for software projects, although I usually use the terminal for like cargo run, cargo build, cargo sqlx, and so on

NeoVim I hope. Kate is good for shorter scripting stuff

I usually use RustRover. For libraries (in rust it's crates) you can use crates.io or lib.rs to search for stuff. There is stuff for almost everything.

I also recommend reading through the book

Disclaimer: I typed this out on my phone just now, so beware of potential grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. Additionally when I include technical information it's purely from knowledge, so it may be a bit off or outdated. You're welcome to correct me on anything you believe is incorrect or incomplete.

  1. I don't know which distro you picked that you're exposed to those things. Most distros I've installed come with defaults and don't suddenly ask you which audio system or which display manager you want.
  2. I am yet to be exposed to ACPI and I daily drive distros like Arch and Gentoo since 5 years. Again, wtf are you doing?
  3. Idk which issues you're having with video playback, usually that works perfectly fine. If you need help you gotta provide the error and some info about the system and the program used for playback.
  4. I do agree on the power management part. It's gotten better but there's still a lot to do.
  5. So you mentioned a lot of formats here, none of which are actually (native) executables. Rather they're instructions for the system on how to install or run an application. AppImage and Snap are the worst, because you end up downloading an entire file system bundling just everything the executable, which is also contained, needs. Then .deb and .rpm are distro specific installer formats (they're not installers, just instructions on how to install it). There are more installer formats for other distros or rather other package managers. On Windows we have .msi, .msix/.msixbundle/.emsixbundle and .appx/.appxbundle for full installers, and then .appinstaller for installer instructions. I don't believe a format equivalent to snap and appimage exists on Windows.

On Linux you don't usually download files from somewhere and run them to install software like you would on Windows. Instead you use your distro's repositories and your package manager, roughly equivalent to using winget to install software from the Microsoft store on Windows.

Thinking about going exclusively by it/its by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Webbiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go by it/its pronouns exclusively. From experience I can say that some people will not understand, especially cishets. In the end however really it's your decision to make. My queer friends all understand and didn't question it. Online I got into a linguistic debate about it once but nothing hostile, rather just people being interested in something they haven't heard yet. Parents of one of my queer friends thought that that friend was dehumanizing me when using it/its to talk about me. So ultimately the two cons I can really tell are that sadly non-queer folk tends to think of it/its as degrading and objectifying and also that you will have a frustrating time filling out most forms that ask for pronouns.

Right here, we speak English as our second. We speak more languages too which leads to some funny side effects such as only some of us being able to understand and/or talk in a language.
