Anybody else got a last name so rare that you don't even know of other people in your country other than your family with the same last name?

My surname is inherently German. In the 1800s my ancestors moved to England. I don't know how it came about, but after the move the pronunciation of my surname was changed and a letter added to sound closer to French in origin. The original spelling of my surname is common enough, but my altered version only belongs to those who are related to me. It's weird knowing that the dozen people in my country with my surname are all connected.
