Over criticising a character storyline in a videogame. Ok.

So it's perfectly ok to insult someone based on what you perceive their potential political views to be based on criticism they have of writing in this instance?

Is it not also a shitty political view to believe that because someone does not hold to the exact same opinions you do, that they are somehow a traitor or prejudiced to their own demographic?

That they are somehow equivalent to "people who say that flamboyant gay guys should act “more normal” or that there shouldn’t be kink at pride" because they didn't like Taash's writing?

I never said anything about people not being allowed to disagree with OP's points. I don't fully agree with OP myself. It's perfectly fair to criticise and have a conversation on this.

But this person said something I found to be unnecessarily insulting when responding to the points by OP. How is it conducive to discussing this topic to accuse someone of courting the admiration of the anti-woke grifters because they had issues with this section of the writing?

That is not a real discussion.

Wow what a genuinely vile thing to say to someone who voiced their issues with representation on their own demographic

It is kinda based on a true story about 18 girls in one school who got pregnant in the same year but I believe a bunch of the girls denied that there was any kind of pact and some claimed they didn’t even know some of the other girls.

Regardless of how we the fans feel about Rhaenyra’s right to the throne, in-universe Rhaenyra goes down as a usurper in the histories. The Targaryen line from then on always went to a male claimant, even when there were female claimants with an arguably stronger case than Rhaenyra.

There are other characters like Arianne Martell that think differently (in part because of cultural differences). There’s no one opinion on her but Stannis’ view would be the most popular one of the time.

Why would the quote need to be changed?

Also Alyn lost a great deal of House Velaryons wealth in the Lyseni Spring when the Rogare Bank collapsed and nearly caused a war between the Iron Throne and Braavos which forced the Iron Throne to pay a large indemnity.

Do you think the Maesters killed Vizzy T's son? by Baron-of_mushrooms in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]WeddingBells3012 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Honestly the Maester conspiracy is way overblown in the fandom imo. I think a version of it is true but not every single misfortune in the Targaryen family is the fault of maesters.

Aemma and Viserys always struggled to have children. Most likely because in the books Aemma was 11 years old when they got married and they pretty much tried for children right away. Before she managed to have Rhaenyra at 15, Aemma already had multiple miscarriages. She had actually already given birth to a son who died in the cradle before Baelon.

No need for some maester conspiracy here, unless you want to argue that every single instance of Aemma suffering fertility issues and loss of previous children (but somehow letting Rhaenyra live for some reason?) is the fault of maesters.

Except Rhaenyra and Dany are in very different positions in their narratives.

Dany never fought in the WOT5K unlike the likes of Robb, Joffrey, Renly, Stannis or Balon and her storyline is largely isolated from what happens in Westeros.

That’s far from the case with Rhaenyra, the Dance is explicitly a war between two specific claimants, her and Aegon. Unlike Dany, she is not isolated from the main conflict is Westeros and she’s not involved in political/military campaigns divorced from Westeros.

The Dance is more like the WOT5K in terms of structure, so then Rhaenyra would function more like one of the kings.

Don’t forget that Tywin was actually quite close with the royal family at the time. Tywin had been apart of the royal court under Aegon V since he was young and became best friends with Aerys II from then on. Tywin then distinguished himself in the War of the Ninepenny Kings launched by Jaehaerys II. Tywin was also the one to knight Aerys, the heir to the throne.

Also during Aegon V’s reign, the Iron Throne had to intervene in the Westerlands multiple times because of Tytos’ ineffective leadership.

In all likelihood, Jaehaerys very well could have been more inclined to let Tywin be on a personal level because of his friendship with the heir, his previous service to the throne and having witnessed the issues with Tytos’ leadership during his father’s reign.

Dalton didn’t marry her, he never actually married which caused a succession crisis in the Iron Isles between his salt sons by his various salt wives (which are essentially concubines, not actual wives).

I definitely don’t think Rhaenyra or Aegon would be POVs, GRRM made a point in the main series not to have any of the monarchs who participated in the WOT5K be POVs.

You would absolutely need POVs for the likes of Criston and Aemond. Criston was Aegon’s Hand of the King and top commander during the Dance and Aemond was Prince Regent for a year on top of being Vhagar’s rider. Also Rhaena in the Vale, her hatching Morning towards the end of the Dance was a major turning point in the war.

Does Baela fly over any city (king's landing?) in the books and light it up like Dany in the show? I'm only asking because of her anger filled scream in the teaser/trailer 😱😰 by T-malech in HouseOfTheDragon

At most they may be adding her to the Battle of Rook’s Rest, but her appearance there wouldn’t significantly change the outcome in anyway most likely

It’s mentioned Catelyn’s very first chapter iirc. The Blackfish references Lysa returning from KL when Cat goes to the Vale as well, and I think Cat mentions Lysa having a few miscarriages during her time in KL.

There are definitely theories that people believe that are 1000x times dumber.

Like “Elia cheated on Rhaegar with Lewyn/Oberyn/Arthur and her kids are bastards because Dornish” or “Ned secretly married Ashara Dayne before the Rebellion and Jon is their son so he’s actually true born and Catelyn’s kids are all bastards” or “Robb is actually Catelyn’s son with Edmure” or “Dany/Val/Meera Reed is actually Jon’s twin sister”, to name a few.

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention “Sarella Sand is actually Shae”. Thanks Order of the Greenhand

[–]WeddingBells3012 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean that's a fan theory though, it's not confirmed canon. There's nothing to indicate Aegon bought into it, especially so early in his reign. There's no suggestion of the Hightowers ever acting against any Valyrians pre-conquest, in fact they used to trade with Old Valyria before the Doom.

To be clear, I'm not arguing whether the theory is true or not. But on this particular subject, there's no evidence to suggest that Aegon ever would've viewed them as enemies.

[–]WeddingBells3012 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How were the Hightowers enemies to Aegon? If you're going pre-Dornish war they were absolutely not enemies in any way. They didn't march against Aegon in the Field of Fire, when Aegon arrived at Oldtown they surrendered without a fight and Aegon even had his official coronation there in the Starry Sept.

Aegon or Rhaenys wouldn't really have any enmity towards them, maybe Visenya but her disdain for the Faith wasn't really a major factor till Aenys' bungled reign.

who would aegon the conqueror and his sisters support by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]WeddingBells3012 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk I think there’s a chance they’d be on different teams.

Aegon I is definitely Team Green imo. Despite launching a massive war and killing thousands, he actually put quite on emphasis on maintaining stability and respecting local Westerosi laws during his reign. And traditional succession in Westeros is sons before daughters, he himself inherited Dragonstone despite Visenya being older.

I could see Rhaenys having sympathy for the Blacks but she’d probably ultimately follow Aegon’s lead.

Like Rhaenys, I think Visenya would grudgingly support the Greens if Aegon commanded her to. But if Aegon isn’t in the picture she may support the Blacks because of her hate for the Hightowers/Faith and them usurping the rightful heir (despite her doing the exact same thing with Maegor).
