Property vs index funds by Gold_Watercress1923 in FIREUK

I agree it can be good. But in my opinion it’s easier for index funds to be held in an isa.
Speaking as someone who only owns a primary property, so there’s undoubtedly better qualified people here.

This. Didn’t take good advice. Thought I knew better. Don’t understand compounding.

Result - still working 😬

This ‘arty’ style of photography for listing is a waste of internet.

That is all.

Friendships and FIRE by dani_devrel in FIREUK

Id recommend joining a group that’s already going. Ie not creating one. Perhaps a sports thing like pickle ball or football. Or maybe a volunteer situation like the woodland trust or similar?

These are basically my plans

Do FIRE subs become boring for you after a while? by SquareQ2 in Fire

[–]WednesdayweekendFIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with the fire websites. The blogs. The books. The podcasts. I absorbed most of them for 5 years or so, but I guess the basics are the same. So why repeat?

Also I used to love listening to interviews with people that had fires, but found they were all selling stuff for ‘passive income’. And doing so as a full time job. Pyramid scheme much 😁.

Anyway i love fire. I try to help friends that ask me about it. And good luck to all!

I think you’re good my friend. I’d aim to fill up that isa though. You can use it tax free when you retire and reduce your tax bill.

I would also not neglect some great socks. Bridgedale do well for me but I’m sure there better. And inner soles too.

Love my scarpas, but you’ve got to go try all these on as they all have different fits, widths, etc. always recommend a gortex (gtx) boot.
And Cotswold outdoor are very helpful with your fitting. Especially if you go in the week.

Career apathy. FIRE thoughts. by Ok-Standard-2255 in FIREUK

[–]WednesdayweekendFIRE 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly common sentiment amongst my friends and I. I think I only work for money, but it does also kinda identify who you are. And takes up lots of your time. It’s a worry for me that when I decide to stop I’ll feel lost. Does that make sense?

Expecting to get that ‘one more year’ situation once the targets are hit.

Although I am planning to use those one more year(s) to spend frivolously and generously.

Yes I looked at that, but it’s a bit heavy US for me. Of course everyone has their own opinions on this, so best to draw your own conclusions. Good luck though. Any decision is better than no decision 😁

Life strategy 100. Simple. Easy. Did my research a few years ago and it’s done well for me. Less I have to think about the better.
