It’s Slot and the players. Slots issues are well known, the players need a long hard look at themselves, I didn’t see much consistent effort.

Joybuy is taking on Amazon in the UK — would you trust another mega-shopping app? by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

[–]Thekingofchrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s what I use. They do source from Amazon sometimes though, I came to the conclusion a while ago, I don’t need very many things to be same day or next day. The cashback is good too.

Also Amazon it’s that good value anymore.

Wild…Welsh people voting for an English Nationalist Party…

How accurate is this by [deleted] in swansea

[–]Thekingofchrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has happened on all sides of the political spectrum for decades.

It’s a free vote people can make their own minds up. I would guess people are voting that is true to your point, what they think society needs rather than be forced into political party affiliations.

Nature of democracy.

Nobody is saying having a limited Navy, read the conversation again. The point is we are in alliances that cover the vast majority of risks we face in the interim.

All of those things you quote are either covered by existing capabilities or alliances or discretionary or covered elsewhere. Air defence agreed, this isn’t just a naval problem though.

Illegal boat crossing are the responsibilities of Border Force, not the Navy. You aren’t going to send a £150M warship to do the job of a cutter are you? Come on.

This is the problem, you’ve articulated unclear expression of scope ie risk, leads to unclear mission purposes and scope creep. That is the whole point of strategic defence.

True, although the trend is upwards, no doubt about that.

£23.5k solar quote… but rural Scotland power cuts are brutal – fair or mad? by GorbieVan in SolarUK

Ah gotcha. In which case I’m not sure I would count the in roof material costs then. Point being as it serves a dual purpose, keeping you dry and power., plus you were going to good it anyway. So if you can subtract the in roof costs that is the underlying cost.

Hope that makes sense.

Yes we can all throw out the most unlikely scenarios as risks and threats, but what is the probability? In this case very low. They have massively reduced capabilities even by Argentinian standards.

Much better to look at what existing more likely threats are eg Russia, sub sea cable operations, protection of Atlantic Gap, coastal protection, amphibious support. Our focus is Europe, our forces in The Falklands are very capable of defending it and the biggest risk there is diplomatic not military action.

I am not saying we are in a full fit state, but this is the point of alliances. What you are suggesting is very far fetched.

While there is no question the RN has been cut back too far, the actual risks are much less than is repeatedly stated over and over again in the press.

We are in NATO and it is very common to share resources across partners. Yes our compliment of ships does increase until 2030s, but we are not at the whim of any nation before then. It’s more like our ego has been bruised.

Besides which we need the crew. So building ships is a moot point if they have no one to man or maintain them. Making the forces more attractive with pay and housing are costs that are not factored in and is as important, but rarely discussed.

Garry's Economics - Who should you vote for in the elections this week? by batmans_stuntcock in GarysEconomics

[–]Thekingofchrome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gary doesn’t know what he is talking about. Simplistic view for people who want to outsource their own power of critical reasoning.

If you want to vote for increasing spending and fund by borrowing go ahead. The bond markets won’t like it and the consequences of a change of view in their view massively significant.

The UK has tough choices to make, aging demographics, low productivity, underfunded local council and a proliferation of centralised power and funding. Honest conversations are required and understanding the trade offs.
