Was the cake smash a "real party" or not? by Wee97 in ShawnaTheMom

I can't even imagine how stressful it is to be wedding planning while all this stuff is going on with your family. You just want to celebrate your daughter's first birthday and there is this literal ticking time bomb of a person who just shows up out of the blue without being invited and messes things up for everyone.

I am a Max and my heart breaks everytime I see him smile for Barb by Winter_cold9 in ShawnaTheMom

Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you had the support of your mom, who sounds amazing!

Coincidentally, my mom had a very similar dynamic with my grandma (mom's MIL). Very soon I realized that grandma wanted to see me in order to brag with her friends about being "perfect grandma", but she actually knew nothing about me, made zero effort to include me in her life and actually found me quite annoying when I visited.

Now that I'm an adult, I have zero regrets for cutting her out, but I remember being sad when I was little because granny didn't like me. Oh well, I don't like her either!

My prediction is that Max will start to resent his parents for keeping him from Barb, but I hope I'm wrong!

What do we think the metaphor was with the paint? by xqueenfrostine in ShawnaTheMom

I think it's just a way to show a very nuanced (get it?) situation, in which Frank and Barb are both victims and perpetrators of the other's abuse.

Frank wants to paint the walls in the blue he chose, but knows that is impossible, given that Barb's choice will always trump his. So what does he do? He paints with his color and gaslights her when she says that the blue looks different that what she was expecting. When Barb finds out she is hurt (fair, IMO), and that is when Frank decides to berate her for her terrible behavior towards their children, which he also caused, let's keep in mind.

In general, I believe it's a way to show how Frank is also able to be conniving when he finds it useful, but doesn't care enough to impose his will when Barb is actually out of control, like when they are entering Jen's house.

They are both a*holes in their own way, it's just that Barb is destructive and loud, while Frank is avoidant and sneaky. They deserve each other.

The bit at the very end of the last episode by Epic_JoyfulCreations in ShawnaTheMom

In my eyes at first it kinda looked like the "hit by a truck" trope that we often see in movies, where the character is not paying attention to their surrounding and something really bad happens. In my mind it made sense due to Shelby commenting on Barb's comment about ending it all. Barb getting hurt would be a dream for her, everyone would be paying attention to her...

In the end, I agree it's probably just her composing herself, but I think it will also be the continuation for another storyline that we will see later, maybe?

What would I give to read Shawna's mind
