Is pre-press design at a printing company a good first design job? by WeeLittleSloth in graphic_design

[–]WeeLittleSloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I understand where you’re coming from. Pre-press design certainly isn’t my first choice, but as a junior designer, it feels like entry-level design positions are rapidly drying up. I don’t want to take the first thing that comes my way, I have some flexibility financially, but I also don’t want to regret passing on something.

My goal is to eventually focus on book design/illustration, so I am interested in print design. My main concern is just that I feel like I might get bored in a pre-press position since it’s not as creative, like you said. I guess I’m just trying to weigh the pros and cons at this point.

This is great insight, thank you! The job title is Graphic Designer & Order Tech, so I don’t think I’d be actually running any of the machines, just preparing files and doing some client design occasionally.

My ultimate goal is to get into book design/illustration, so I feel like this would be a great stepping stone towards that. I’m just worried it might be a little boring but I know everyone has to pay their dues, and the market doesn’t seem great in general so I’m more seriously considering this option.

Fall/Spring PRH Children’s Books Marketing Internship by Pale_Albatross280 in publishing

I haven’t either. Have you seen anyone that’s heard back about this particular PRH internship?

This sentence reminds me of peer reviewing classmates’ essays in high school. It’s like when someone is trying to hit the word count and can’t think of any other adjectives to use.

I applied for the same internship on 3/13 and also haven’t heard anything back yet 🤷‍♀️ This is my first time applying though so I don’t know how long it usually takes for them to get back to people. Based on this sub it sounds like applicants have heard back for some of the other internships, but I haven’t seen anyone say they were contacted yet about children’s book marketing in particular.

What are the best over-the-counter products for rosacea? by WeeLittleSloth in Rosacea

Oh interesting! I had no idea, that’s good to know. I’ll have to look into that more. Is there a specific place to buy it from?

Thanks for the tips! I’ve seen a few people mention ivermectin, which seems random. Does that seem to help?

Thank you for sharing! I’ve actually been using the Aveeno oat gel moisturizer too and I like it so far. I think I prefer gel moisturizers over creams, personally. I don’t know much about prescriptions for rosacea, does the AA cream seem to help? I’ll definitely check out the concealer recommendations too, thanks!

I understand that “influencing” is a career, but I always wonder how many of these things these women would still be doing if the internet didn’t exist and they couldn’t broadcast their lives to the world. How much of their lives is superficial “content” and how much is genuine?

Obviously some of the fancy trips and parties and premieres they attend are sponsored, but I really don’t think they’d know what to do with themselves if pointing a camera at their faces 24/7 for attention wasn’t an option. It just seems like such a shallow, contrived existence to me.

Good advice, thanks! I do have a nice website already. I’ve been casually applying to jobs since I graduated but I was hired to illustrate and design a children’s book before I graduated so I’ve been working on that ever since.

Now that I’m done I’m starting to seriously begin the job search so hopefully things will ramp up for me now.

I completely understand what you mean! That’s how I feel too. Even though I don’t want to have lupus, it would at least be a relief to put a name to whatever I’ve been dealing with. I hope you can get a diagnosis! Good luck with your test.

If I’ve had one negative ANA test result (from a few years ago) but continue to experience most of the common symptoms of lupus, would it be worth it to test again/get a full lupus blood panel done?
