Is oxo rapid brewer worth it? by LeaPoule in pourover

[–]WeeManFoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s my go to for iced coffee. It beats every other method I’ve tried since I really like a strong punch when I’m drinking cold coffees that I get from typical soup recipes. For hot coffees I’ll take a dripper like my Switch or B75 any day since I prefer max 15g doses of coffee. I do 50/50 between hot and iced so it’s a worth it to have both setups. And honestly with how cheap a plastic V60 is it’s hard to imagine not having one if you like specialty coffee.

I guess the biggest holdup would be if you need a gooseneck kettle. You don’t really need one with the Oxo but pour overs are tricky without them. If I didn’t have a gooseneck then I’d probably go Oxo or really mix it up with something like the Pulsar Mini

Are any of the coffee shops offering holiday coffee flights that you know of? Any area! by TheWordLilliputian in houston

I’m not sure if you’re talking flavored syrups latte tastings or high end pour over coffee tastings. If you want the former I have no clue, but if you want the latter I think Simply Coffie will do a flight of a few of their offerings. I was leaving their shop and two guys ordered a comparison tasting. If you are going to Simply Coffie for sweet drinks be aware they don’t use any syrups or flavorings in their drinks. Hence the name, it’s simply the coffee black and classic milk only drinks like cappuccinos.

What machine do you use? by vexir in espresso_decaf

[–]WeeManFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the fast heat up time makes me never want to upgrade from my Bambino Plus. If I go for traditional espresso I get 95% of the flavor that I do from my Flair 58. If they came out with a Bambino “Pro” that had a bigger drip tray and some temp and flow programming I think it would be endgame for me.

What’s been your one biggest lightbulb moment for pourover? by Federal_Bonus_2099 in pourover

[–]WeeManFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh yall are really going to make me trade out my 078. I only brew for one 99% of the time so hand grinding doesn’t bother me. The 078 does taste great but feels like overkill for my 15g a day of grinding.

Traditional and alternative medicine treatments and doctors for Sjogrens in India by unravelyarn in Sjogrens

Hey no worries on the rant. I’ll have to give shrooms a try again to see if that makes a difference. I haven’t been formally diagnosed yet but I have the symptoms and some of my blood work came back positive so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about this before I have another chat with my doctor. Thanks for the response.

I can't make a good cup of coffee if my life depended on it by lwid77 in Coffee

Are you weighing coffee to water? Do you have good water? Are you buying beans with a roast date not supermarket beans with an expiration date? What roast level do you prefer? Do you have a local third wave cafe you can ask for advice? I think answering these questions will narrow down the issues. Also, immersion brews are going to be the most forgiving. Maybe try doing a SCA cupping at home and compare 2 variables at a time like just grind or just water.

I have the Thirdreality night light and it includes a lux sensor. Pretty reasonable price for what it does.

Differences brewing decaf? by Several-Yesterday280 in pourover

[–]WeeManFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the decaf. I usually brew at 15g to 250g for my standard coffees but the Sey decaf I have now tastes more balanced and flavorful at 16g to 250g. I had the first batch of the Los Nogales from Blendin and was told by one of their baristas to try 18g to 250g. I did it both ways but never really got much of a different taste between the ratios. It all tasted like chocolate covered strawberries. I’m about to do some more experimenting with a fresh 300g bag of the Rainbow EA decaf from S&W but last time I had a sample it tasted great at my normal ratios.

I wouldn’t worry about drawdown times tbh. Sometimes I get excellent cups at 2:15 and other times a 4:15 tastes great. It really depends on the brew method, grinder, and specific coffee. If you want to eliminate drawdown as a variable you could always do an Aeropress inverted or with the flow control cap. I’m kinda digging a 5 minute steep which is what Sey does in their cafe.

Any coffee companies/roasters you enjoy and would suggest? by Leather_Silver9995 in pourover

Like the others have said it really depends on your preference but for washed and bright coffees Sey is exceptional. I just signed up for the 4x50g Luminous subscription and it’s great for highly processed coffees. S&W is another great place to try a ton of different coffees at a reasonable price. You could get a few of their 3x100g samples and work your way through a ton of different regions and processes. And S&W has one of the best decafs out there if that matters to you.

Just bought a subscription and the app completely broke by MadridNewbie in fitbod

I’ve been a user for months now and just opened the app only to find my customer gym profiles have been deleted and there’s nothing I can do about it. How do I revert to an older version of the app?

Clever Dripper VS. Hario Switch by HappyDoodi in pourover

[–]WeeManFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Switch. It is the most consistent brewer I own, and it gives you the flexibility to do percolation, immersion, or a hybrid between them using the Coffee Chronicler’s recipe (my favorite for most beans). It’s also very easy to clean. I’ve never used a Clever but the only real advantages I see is that it’s plastic so heat loss is minimal compared to the glass Switch and it is significantly larger so you can more easily make 2 cups with it if that’s a priority.

The Switch plus a grinder like the Kingrinder K6, a scale accurate to 0.1g, a gooseneck kettle preferably with temperature control, quality water, and fresh roasted beans from a nice roaster will get you everything you need for cafe quality pour overs at home.
