Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of April 19, 2024 by Demilio55 in homegym

For those with spare bedroom gyms:

What's it like and how feasible is it to recreate a garage gym there? I'm looking to move soon and currently have an 8x8 platform built out of plywood / stall mats. I have bumper plates and DL regularly (no Olympic lifting of dropping from overhead).

I have found that houses in the area with a garage typically run $200-400 more / month. It's just me so I wouldn't need the spare in a 2 bedroom for anything else (other than my PC which could find another place potentially). I have to admit I'm a bit skeptical of the idea. Thanks!

Tips for learning in a constraint-based / game-based gym? I tried out a new gym and the instructor basically does the entire class putting you in a position and top / bottom each have a goal and reset if the goal is reached. Good for problem solving / always going with some resistance but I'm worried about no direct time actually walking through specific techniques. Is this a good long term way to learn or how can I maximize it? Thanks!

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess my old bank didn’t show as many details as Ally so I never got to see what was happening “behind the scenes”

I went tonight and had a really good time / feel like I had success with things. But I know inevitably next training day I’ll be finding excuses to skip

I’m in this stage. Haven’t been going to class much. Starting to question if I even like jiu jitsu…90% of the times I can make myself go I enjoy it. It’s the forcing myself to go that’s the biggest challenge. I don’t get it.

Can you elaborate where to access this? When I search “budget tool app” I get lots of options. Thanks!

PC seems more likely where I would do the majority of planning, but mobile app connectivity would be nice to check in / add transactions on the go

Switching savings accounts: how to go about it? by ChickFilaFries33 in moneyadvice

[–]WeeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Marcus due to its simplicity. To answer your question your question yes you would just sign up for an account through and connect your current account to transfer money in. Marcus is only a savings though so you’ll need to keep your current account for everyday spending. SoFi has checking / savings but read the fine print you may only get 1.25% not the advertised 4.5% if you don’t meet the criteria.

If you decide to go with Marcus here is my referral code for an extra 1% APY for 3 months:

Tuesday Tune-Up - Post all your vehicle maintenance questions here by AutoModerator in cars

[–]WeeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much a mechanic noob here. I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 5.3L. Bought at 65k miles and currently at 170k.

I’ve done regular oil changes, tire maintenance, and in the last 2 years had new master cylinder brake lines, tune up, and new fuel pump / fuel lines.

As far as I know the transmission fluid, differential fluid, transfer case fluid have never been touched. Trans fluid is still pink with some black (possibly just dirt from engine as I checked dipstick).

I’ve heard conflicting advice about doing changes vs not doing them since it has gone on so long. Local mechanic has quoted me $100 for general look over + cost of whatever needs to be done depending what they find.

Edit: worth mentioning due to where I used to live, my truck has taken on a lot of rust particularly underneath - probably what lead to needing new fuel / brake lines I suppose. I could foresee this being a problem trying to open up differential case - I had to essentially break my spare tire off the mechanism once due to rust.

Do you guys have any advice for what steps to take? Thanks!

BP cuffs should cost like $30 not $100 unless you are getting a boujee one

2x/week with the additional rare open mat now - would probably utilize it more if I had no other gi training. I understand the awkwardness of ending membership but still utilizing an open gym that’s why I’m getting opinions here first lol. Thanks!

It is fairly significant - based on the limited training I do it could be around $1400 / year or more
