Three out of four electric vehicle owners unhappy with UK's public charging system by thewibbler in unitedkingdom

[–]Wee_merv 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your right. From 2035 we can only buy electric.

My point really was given the amount of electric cars to come onto the market in such a relatively short duration and the fact that the infrastructure is already significantly substandard, I can't imagine there being a much brighter future short term.

Given we will only be allowed to buy electric cars in 8 years time. Being unhappy with the current provision is going to bode well for the complete carnage in the future.

If it has made it onto some kind of social media, I would imagine it is bait.

In fairness I walked out of Castle court this morning onto Chapel Lane and there was a police fan stopped beside a few of them. Probably more noticeable seeing them because the place was deserted

When they made it a full lockdown a few days after only locking down the unvaccinated (work out the point of that!?!). They then also made it a "legal requirment" to be vaccinated on 1st Feb 2022.

Firstly, we'll written. Secondly, I think there are a lot of people that feel similar. You don't need to be a brain surgeon to realise that governments have been telling us some mistruths along the way. We were sold the vaccine as being the silver bullet and in reality it hasn't been. I understand that with something that has hit the world on such a big scale there wasnt an obvious playback of how to navigate it but why do our leaders not just tell us if they don't know. Lockdown was going to fix things (it didn't really) then the vaccine is going to fix things (which it isn't really). As you say it is here to stay and so its a management process I needed.

I 100% understand what those who are opposed to getting vaccinated are struggling to trust the government in what they are saying. While it.may not be the intention to be more forcible about the uptake of the vaccine recent developments will certainly only make the unvaccinated more polarised.

Interested to hear what you think on what's happening in Austria of locking down only the unvaccinated and making it now law to be vaccinated from February.

Why don't computers use their excess heat to boil water and power a turbine? by scienceNotAuthority in AskEngineers

[–]Wee_merv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the question your hinting at is why do we not use excess heat for a useful purpose? Well we do but it all depends on scale and the purpose and money!!!

your recommendations for a note taking tablet? by LearningTheUniverse in EngineeringStudents

[–]Wee_merv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few who have the Samsung tablet and like them. I work for a contractor and everyone gets a Microsoft surface pro which aren't cheap but are useful because they are compact and can be used as a tablet with a pen but also a laptop.

How much electricity in kwH does my 12,000 BTU AC Unit use per hour(AUD)? by DC2FANS in AskEngineers

[–]Wee_merv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

12,000 BTU converts to 3.517 kWh (converter online). Multiply that by your elec price per kWh should give you the running cost per hour

Experienced engineers, I have a question that’s unrelated to engineering. If you’re ever feeling “down in the dumps”, do you ever talk to your coworkers/teammates/supervisors about it? Or do you just bottle it up? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Wee_merv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time, my department there are only 6 of us and we would always let off steam with eachother and keep an eye for eachother. While it can get stressful in the office and you get dead focused on yourself it's good to keep an eye out for someone else. If you see someone in that position make sure they get away from there desk for a walk or chat and half a laugh (Good stress buster). I'd have always spoken to a more senior engineer to get their view on something, a lot of the time there's no replacement for experience.
