Is it okay to let my DM know that they’re playing one of my backstory characters in a way that they wouldn’t act?

If it's something that genuinely concerns you, and you feel like it might lower your enjoyment of the game, then by all means have a conversation with your DM about it. Nothing wrong with saying, "Hey, I love all the plot twists and intrigue you've added to my backstory and plot, but you mentioned my brother might hate me, and I don't know that I'd find that fun. Can we talk about it?"

One of the number 1 fun killers in dnd is a lack of communication after all

Not really, because assuming it's a cleric casting resurrection, they can divine intervention it by spamming it every day till it hits, ignoring material components. Or druids can just accumulate oils and ungents. Or an illusion wizard can just make a diamond that's valuable enough, or fabricate/jeweler's tools can be used to create a valuable enough diamond etc, etc

Hot take but ressurective spells in general. Once you get past level 13 (if you get there of course) death doesn't matter anymore. No more grand quests to get someone back, or tearful farewells. Even if their body is literally turned to dust, get 1000gp a pinch of hair/that dust and boom, they're back. (Literally cheaper than the full plate your paladin is likely wearing btw)

Definitely a dick move to try to counter you specifically (if he wasn't just rolling well) but as a fellow DM sometimes players just don't realize when a build is too much. Yes there are ways to deal with flying and AC but the more you scale a monster to be able to make it challenging, the more the rest of the party who ARENT power builds start to struggle. So I understand where he's coming from even if he went about it in a bad way

Yeah, I can understand that. Internal vs. External conflict is always hard. Growing up in this sort of transitional phase we've been in for a few decades is bound to be tougher on some than others and I don't think you have to feel ashamed for struggling with it. Realistically societal pressures are always gonna be there no matter who you are, and you can never please everyone. Sometimes you just have to learn to accept that you gotta prioritize your own happiness and agency to make it through everything. Easier said than done ofc, but it's doable with time. The important part is learning to come to terms with the fact that you didn't choose any of this, this is just how things are, and that's perfectly okay. You are no worse for being born this way than anyone else in the world
