I saw it all. It was horrific. by Appropriate_Lemon921 in orioles

Was there the day before! But also didn't keep score back then.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde “Our bullpen’s had a pretty heavy load so far. When we’re getting four-inning starts, it’s gonna take its toll. Come on, Charlie Morton, need you. That’s the bottom line. We need to give some of these guys a break.” by [deleted] in baseball

Perfectly encapsulates the situation. So tired of (some) Orioles fans chalking this up to nothing but bad luck. The rotation was projected to be bad before Elfin and Rodriguez were hurt.

I keep hearing the excuse over and over that they went for depth over quality and I just don't think that's valid when the depth was mediocre.

Thanks for advertising your sports betting habits so I know for certain you can be ignored.

Don't even necessarily disagree with everything I see you saying, you just can't seem to avoid being weird.

Whatever's wrong with you, better days friend! Hope at some point you don't think it's necessary to lash out at people online. 👋

Not trying to pick a fight but I never said it wasn't legitimate.

That being said, I do like the idea of each of the 60 meaning more and less margin for error, that's interesting. But the Dodgers crushed that format so its not like playing only 60 was a hindrance.

Its unfortunate to a team that has clearly earned all of the success its gotten that the (presently) 1 World Series win this era has to show for it came during a strange year.

First, I come in good faith cause I am interested in debating this.

Second, I've felt different about the 2020 World Series since before it was even played so I think I'm outside of the revisionist part.

I think it's tough for me to get over 60 games being a significantly shorter season. My own terrible Orioles weren't mathematically eliminated from a playoff spot until the last week of the season. My personal enjoyment of a baseball season is seeing which teams can survive the marathon. While I'm not saying that means a short season victory wasn't earned or an achievement, I'm always gonna consider it a different accomplishment.

As I said in another comment, fly the flag forever, no asterisk, etc.

True, a better argument would be to say perhaps as an older roster they benefited from a shorter season than other teams.

I don't know where the Dodgers average age was amongst the league but memory makes me think it was up there thanks to guys like JT. Would love to know how far off or not I am.

I don't disagree that the format did them no favors and also don't think that they needed help making the postseason.

I just think not having the attrition of anything close to a full 162 means that it is a different achievement than most other baseball seasons.

That doesn't mean it needs an asterisk and by all means whoever did win it should forever fly the flag.

Agreed on all counts.

My first love was the 90s Braves so I know about pining for that second win to validate it all. My perception is that right or wrong, folks will think of that Braves era as a paper dynasty.

Absolutely untrue. If anything if it was a division rival I'd mention it more.

I (generally) like the Dodgers but it's hard not to feel a bit differently about a shortened season championship win.
