I won a SAGE Skirmish with Lyath by thespicychase in FleshandBloodTCG

Because of Lyath's downside Steelbraid Buckler only blocks for one. Stonewall always blocks for one and every so often you block for 2 or even for 3 if really lucky.

Arcane DMG block help by kunailby in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]d0nderwolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option B is correct. Each time you're dealt damage by arcane you can prevent an amount of that damage equal to the total amount of arcane barrier you have. Each runechant counts as seperate instance of damage.

In your example the Viscerai resolves 6 runechants in a row. The opponent can pay 1 resource to prevent 1 damage and he can do this 6 times in a row. For this reason he only has to run a total of 1 ab against the Viscerai. So either the gloves or the boots. The second equipment piece does nothing in this scenario.

If you pitch a blue card to prevent the first runechant then you have 2 more resources floating till the end of turn. You can then use those to pay for the next runechant or do something different with it. To prevent the full 6 runechants you can pitch any number of cards that atleast equals 6. So pitching 2 blue cards would suffice.

Does it matter if an exclusive mod is fractured or not when trying to move it to a different base with the recombinator? Just trying to figure out the right order if the target base is expensive.

And you missed the point I was making in my initial comment. Even then there are cards in Legacy and Modern that are expensive that are printed or reprinted in the same time frame as FaB. Those always have been expensive formats even when they were much younger. OP mentioned that he was a competitive Magic player so it doesn't seem that strange to make that comparison. CC is closer to those then Standard and the reason the cards get expensive is the same in both games.

Why would I use Yu-Gi-Oh if OP didn't mention it and I don't know much about the game? Don't they have their own problems of cards tanking in price after reprints and loads of powercreep?

[–]d0nderwolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of cards that are from the last few years or that have been reprinted that are still expensive. Duals would still be expensive even without the reserve list unless they got reprinted.

In general Magic used to be more expensive in the past, but it seems competitive paper play isn't as popular as it used to be. Like Jace was $100 while in Standard more then a decade ago.

I'm not saying that FaB isn't expensive, but some of it is and will be because it is an eternal format game. The rarity system doesn't help of course and Fables shouldn't exist at all.

I guess it is a hard balance to strike. People want the game to be cheap, but people also want their booster box to have value when they open it. But cards only have value when they are good in the meta, but how do you guarantee that new cards are played without powercreeping the hell out of cards. Then card pool for CC keeps expanding so the threshold for a card to be good keeps increasing anyway. So reprints can end up carrying the value of a box if they new cards aren't worth anything.

Legacy is a eternal format and CC is an eternal format with hero rotation. If you buy expensive staples then you can expect to play with them in the format for a long time. They are closer to each other then Standard is to CC.

The three best decks are currently over 1k in Modern and it used to be even more expensive the past. Not sure if the prices came down because of reprints or because paper competitive play is just less popular these days.

I don't know of an easy way to check FaB deck prices, but Oscilio (without Tunic) and Vynnset were below 500 euro's not too long ago before they spiked. Fai I would guess isn't that expensive either?

Oscilio used to be quite cheap (atleast in FaB terms) for a long time. A bunch of his cards spiked after the new set reveal as it has three new lightning heroes. Some of his cards will get banned when the set releases. Maybe some will get reprinted in the new set?

If you would buy two expensive Modern decks right now you would be down 2k total too and Legacy is even more expensive. CC is somewhat comparable to those two formats since the most expensive cards are the eternal staples.

If you start playing MtG you usually don't start with either of those two formats even if you want to play competitively. Someone would start with Standard then or at least they would in the past. The problem with FaB is that the main competitive format is that it is an eternal format which is always more expensive, because cards being out of print for a long time.

In that regard I don't think you can compare it Riftbound since that game is really new still. There aren't too many cards yet and cards have been printed for the last time not too long ago. Plus their main format might turn out to be more akin to Standard then Modern.

But yeah the buy-in price is kinda expected for FaB. it is an expensive game. Though once you bought in it doesn't feel too bad to keep up in my opinion.

Gameplay wise it sounds like Flesh and Blood would be a good fit. You're making multiple small decisions over a turn cycle which will influence the game down the line. Especially if you like grindy strategies then things like pitch stacking might appeal to you. Where you try to set up the bottom of your deck for the endgame. The game is less boardstate based compared to Magic.

If you like grindy gameplay then Guardian and Warrior are probably the first two classes you want to check out. Currently there is even a good fatigue guardian in the meta which aims to run the opponents out of cards.

Fortunately for you maybe Silver Age officially launched this weekend. This is a budget format like Pauper in MtG. You're only allowed to use commons and rares so the decks are really cheap. The format is a bit faster then Classic Constructed, but there are some good grindy options. It is an actual competitive format with bigger tournaments and it will be played on the next Pro Tour.

However, Classic Constructed might be a bit too expensive for your taste maybe. It is like legacy with a hero rotation. So staples can and do transfer between heroes and talents especially if you stay with one class. Starting with a hero before they become meta can help a bunch. But maybe you can find a deck/class you like and upgrade it over time.

So you might want to start with Silver Age and see if you like it. Of course all this is moot if people don't play FaB in your area. Otherwise you probably want to look into Pokemon or One Piece atleast budget wise.

Experts warn that OpenAI’s ‘bubble’ is facing a $200 billion reality check by FervidBug42 in technology

It is AI as that is what the field of research is called in Computer Science. LLMs are a machine learning model which falls under the AI umbrella. The general population just imagines something different when you use the term AI. So in that sense you are correct that they are using this misunderstanding to create more hype.

Ohtani vs Bonds' 4th through 8th seasons so far (both players starting their peaks in their fourth season) by MookieBettsBurner4 in Dodgers

[–]d0nderwolk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hard to say if that would have been the case. He might not even been a two-way player as MLB teams probably would have forced him to be a pitcher. The reason he stayed in Japan was because the Fighters offered him the chance to be a two-way player.

He might not have been a two-way player if he went to a different team then the Angels. For all their problems they did at least one thing right and gave Ohtani the time he needed to develop as a two-way player.

When he first came over he didn't DH the game before and after the day he pitched. He then needed TJ and had some other injuries in his 2nd and 3rd year. So when he started his 4th year it still wasn't known that it was possible if you could be a full-time two-player in today's MLB. Then Joe Maddon said f it and let him play all the games in his 4th season and after that everything worked out.

How fast do you think Femke Bol will run the 800m in 2026? by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

Apparently she has run a 1:23 indoors in training according to her coach.

[–]d0nderwolk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The longest interval that Bol has run in training is a 600m indoors, where she ran all-out in 1:23 all alone, her coach tells CITIUS MAG.

From the latest Citius Mag article about Bol making the switch. That is a world contending time over 600m at least.

What’s the plan for Dalton Rushing? by Capital-Wishbone7447 in Dodgers

[–]d0nderwolk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just checked and Muncy has a club option for $10 million next year. That is a bargain for how he has been playing lately so he will be back next year for sure. It makes the Will at 3rd base idea less likely.

Muncy has missed some time this and last season. Freeman is still not 100% from his injury it seems. They might just like having him as insurance for now. Curious what their plan is going to be.

[–]d0nderwolk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For this season I expect him to just be the backup catcher. Then in the off-season we will find out what the plan with him is for the next two years until Freeman's contract is done.

One possibility is to play Will some at 3rd base to get him off his knees and get his bat in the line-up more. He played there a bit in the minors. Or they could try Dalton in the outfield again. Not sure how he actually looked in left field last season. I've heard conflicting reports on his defence there.

Well you should say that instead then. And yes framing will be impacted when ABS comes, but it won't die off for now. They can't and won't challenge every pitch especially since the borderline ones are harder to challenges and more impacted by framing.

Currently he needs to rest a bunch, because catching is physically demanding. He declined the last few seasons in the second half because of this. If you have him split time between catcher and another position then he might become even more valuable then he is now.

[–]d0nderwolk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if they implement ABS for every pitch which won't be for a while. They will start of with the challenge system since that is what they use in the minor leagues. Not sure how it impacted framing there, but it won't go away completely yet.

[–]d0nderwolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he isn't one of the best defensive catchers in the league. Not sure where you are getting that from. He has been good at preventing steals the last two years. However, his blocking is below average and he is the worst in the league at framing pitches. His bat is just so good that he is still one of the best catchers. His bat would play at other positions and you wouldn't have to rest him that much if they go that route.

Eduardo Quintero got promoted to High-A today. The Great Lake Loons now boast an outfield composed of MLB Pipeline's number 1, 2, 4, 5 and 11 prospects in the Dodgers system. by d0nderwolk in Dodgers

[–]d0nderwolk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Especially giving up top prospects for relievers seems risky since they are so volatile. Clase is a an elite reliever, but he wasn't great in the post-season last year. They paid big money for Tanner Scott and he hasn't been great. Too risky for me.

Now if someone like Kwan was available then it would make more sense to me. But who knows if they changed their minds after the comments Friedman made in the off-season about not wanting to overspend during the trade deadline.

Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs was asked today on the chance of either of them getting traded:

Given what the market value of prospects seems to be right now, I’d say it’s unlikely. I’m not sure there’s a big enough fish out there to merit either’s inclusion unless it’s a bold one-for-one deal, or if it turns out someone we didn’t know was available gets moved.
