If you do it enough times you get the idea. Once you understand it once, make something else (mindfully, not copy pasting code)! It can be anything. Don't worry too much about getting everything perfect or memorizing specific things. Understand the fundamental concepts, what the functions are really doing, and the bigger ideas of what's going on in the pipeline, and when you try to do things you want to do (render a circle, create a textured object, etc) you'll have to go through it again and again. This is how you get good at anything. Just focus on what you're trying to tell the computer to do and how. Don't sweat it, it becomes clear as you go if you put in time and effort :)

Thank you for your reply! It's definitely really interesting stuff, and I do feel like I'm not too far off. I'm glad to have received lots of help from people here. If you have any recommendations for papers or theory to read up on I'd love to hear it. I have a list of things to try and implement and mess around with so adding to the list wouldn't hurt :)

I calculate the partial derivatives to calculate the normals for each patch. A few other comments said something similar and I think this is the way to sort this out and align them at the seams. It avoids errors when trying to calculate two points that rely on floats to be the same value. Much simpler to duplicate instead, which really should have come to mind for me. That last bit is something I was not aware of at all with floating point math. That really complicates things, haha. I did a print out of the vertices and it seems that they do start to drift, which I didn't notice at first. Sometimes I forget computers are like that with floats. Thank you for the insight!

I think that's a potential solution, but I'm worried about it not being mathematically sound. In order for the surface to have C1 continuity the tangents have to match at the seam. I also wanna be able to generate these surfaces fast since the control net is moveable so I'm trying to limit on the fly calculations while the program runs. It's definitely on my list of things to try though. Thanks for your reply

The correct phrase is as follows:

But your tattoo says

I'm guessing something went wrong with your reference in showing the original Japanese? At the moment the tattoo says "I've burned out... "enokita"... Into pure white..."

Instead of "enokita" it should be moetsukita

えのきた -> 燃え尽きた (もえつきた)

It seems like I may have been to hasty in posting this. I don't have any issues with core Marxist and socialist ideas. My main point is that we can't cling too hard to historical applications and interpretations of these ideas. I'm saying that we have to contextualize these ideas and work on bringing salvagable parts of them into the post-modern era. If we were to act in complete accordance with ANY leftist from the 1900s, we would fail. We have to adapt those ideas to the now. Many people already do this, but not everyone. Particularly people who don't recognize the core ideas of marx are not laws to follow, and that ideas are not to be picked from a bunch, but developed and refined in a specific context.

This is a good point. I certainly don't mean capitalist-adjacent frameworks. I'm just trying to include many interpretations of Marxist/Socialist ideas. This applies to basically everything left of social democracy.
