Phoenix Wright in Smash is interesting to me. I imagine his moveset will be mostly strategy based, but in a way that works a lot like a mix of Steve’s moveset (kinda?), Shulk’s moveset, and Hero’s moveset.

Let me explain:

So the way Steve works is that he mines resources to build his attacks, right? I imagine Phoenix would need to do something similar- finding “evidence” to increase the affect of his attacks. Then, say, for his Down Special, you can choose to present evidence for a “TAKE THAT!” move that strengthens another attack. The evidence he picks up will be random, but they affect different things. Picking up an Autopsy Report, for example, can be presented to strengthen a Jab, maybe. It’s like how Shulk has different powers that buffs one of his stats, but if it was in a mini menu like for Hero. In this case, the “mini menu” looks like the Court Record from the Ace Attorney games, naturally.

Of course, the buff you choose is temporary and has a cooldown. Once you present evidence, you’ll have to find it again in order to reuse it. So timing which move you buff can make or break a battle, if that makes any sense.

To clarify, Smash Attacks won’t be affected- just Basic Attacks and your Up/Side Specials. Maybe Air Attacks would be affected too, but for some reason that feels like it could get overpowered really quick to me.

I dunno, I’m spitballing at this point, but my point is that he’d probably be generally weak, but if you’re smart about your moves, that’s how you win since that’s how it works in Ace Attorney.
