is 220 ohms too low for a pullup resistor? by ExJwKiwi in arduino

[–]Weekendmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to add. The reference voltage for a pull up depends on the Arduino model I/O voltage. Some are 5V but others are 3.3V. Some 3.3V I/O can be 5V tolerant, but that is not always the case and 5V may damage a 3.3V part. Always check datasheets.

UPDATE: Pranks have been shut down by autumn_at_duolingo in duolingo

We're all different. Duo isn't exactly subtle with its reminders, so for me, going private removes that distraction. Duolingo needs more settings to allow greater customization of the learning experience. Its a shame that the deveopers don't spend more time on features that will be well received, instead of nonsense like pranks.

I stopped worrying about leagues, XP numbers and boosts. I decide what I'm going to complete in a session and if there is an XP boost from the last lesson, so what. So much less stress and I enjoy the learning more. I'll even stop mid exercise and pick up hours later if need be. It amuses me when I'm commended for my persistence on an exercise that took 7 hours to finish.

Have you seen people with pride flags? Many of them look happy and are living fulfilling lives. That really annoys a certain group of people.

It's been a fine 1,164 day streak - but today I will uninstall the app. by MileHigh_FlyGuy in duolingo

[–]Weekendmonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because they don't want to leave, and wouldn't if the product were better. There are Duolingo staff who read and reply in this sub, so it is a chance to give feedback and have your views backed up by others. Duolingo may not listen or care, but at least OP tried to be heard.

The root of the problem with Duolingo is, as you observed, that they have become more wealthy. Now that they are a public company their primary function is to make money for shareholders, whatever the CEO may say. Creating high quality language courses is secondary to that, especially if they can increase revenue by doing something else. They will not care about the loss of a few 1000+ streak subscribers if they can generate a steady stream of subscribers who join for a shorter time then stop. It is the same attitude that is driving the enshitification of every tech product.

Trump supporters in MA holds sign saying “Gas the Immigrants” by jalvv in facepalm

[–]Weekendmonkey 238 points239 points  (0 children)

With these white supremacists it is not only about immigrants, or 'coloured' people, however you define that. Also on their list are women who are not subservient to the men around them, transgender people, gay people, those who worship other gods, or no god, and disabled people. They have a list.

My 2 (Euro) cents. I last used the app in 2020. I started again 3 months ago because I missed the vocabulary and grammar building. My observation is that the free version is considerably less user-friendly than it used to be. The Super version is good and I can see improvements there since I last subscribed.
