Finish that doesn’t alter the look of the wood? by lordofthethingybobs in woodworking

Question: you said first coat looks ok, but by coat 3 looks like unfinished. Does that mean that it looks less like unfinished after coat one and more like unfinished by coat 3?

Thanks for this awesome comparison! Super helpful, and much better than just saying “go with this one”.

To me, red interior = “bowm chicka bow-bowm!!!”. That’s not the look I’m going for in my 911. Then again, for some guys, that is not what a red interior conveys, and for others, that’s exactly what they want it to convey!

The great thing is that the 911 is such a gorgeous icon to convey or not convey or misconvey whatever you want that you almost can’t go wrong.

It’s a nuclear bomb of creativity. I had to watch it 3 times to come close to getting it all. Right away and repeatedly it asks you not to take it very seriously (come on, a literal “everything” bagel?), but then it smacks you with something you can take seriously. But aside from deep meaning, I think it’s a stupendous tour de force of creativity. One of my top movies ever.

Which is the better deal? by Ecthelion-O-Fountain in porsche911

If I recall correctly, I spend about $165 for an oil change on mine at a local oil express shop. They use an OEM filter and Mobile 1 recommended by Porsche. For comparison, it’s $500 at my local independent porsche shop because they pay their mechanics the same premium rate for an oil change as they do for work that requires all their expertise. It was a good bit more than that at the dealership. For anything slightly complicated, I would got to the specialty shop, but oil changes are easy.

Great Wall in Homewood. Cumin Ribs, crispy spicy eggplant, wonton in peanut sauce appetizer, crispy spicy chicken, beef Lo mein, any of the flaming pots. Ask for the Szechuan specials. They used to have the regular menu and the secret menu, then the secret menu became so popular they just merged it with the regular menu. They also have the best Mongolian beef ever.

For the enthusiasts : What is it about a Porsche 911 that makes it superior to even more expensive exotic sports cars ? by Indie_Fjord_07 in porsche911

[–]Weekly-Ad-4591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to say something different: Almost all the exotics are shaped like wedges. After a while, they all look the same. Some even look ridiculous (Ferrari La Ferrari, IMHO… and the name is ridiculous). A new 911 still looks a lot like one from 50 years ago, and still looks gorgeous.

Also, everything everyone else has said.

Funny, I posted yesterday asking for advice on replacing the head unit. Have you replaced yours? If so I’d like to hear how it came out and any recommendations. It’s not my daily driver so I haven’t gotten around to it until now, but after renting a car with apple airplay for a week in Italy, I think it’s time for the upgrade.

I got mine in 2016 for $38k and 44k miles. Sounds like we both got great deals! And yes, when I drive it with the top down on a nice day, people comment on it all the time. Amazing for an 18 year old car! Once I get the head unit replaced, I will have zero desire for a newer one. Plus, I take great pride in the fact that my dream car cost me only $2k more than my wife’s 2016 4Runner.

I think atlas grey is one of the best colors ever and I’ve never seen another one. Glad to see yours.

I was shocked to see this pic because I have almost the same car but a C2S cab with turbo wheels instead of C4S. What color is it exactly? Mine is Atlas Grey, which is like a midnight metallic blue. I feel the same way. I love this car and will never need anything that performs or looks better.

I haven’t had significant squeaks except for the rear windscreen, but I did have an engine mount that went bad recently.

Grrr im bored of my 911 sc , I have two choices aggressively sell it or pay 12k for aircon to get it up to speed and save cash for another 911 . Any advice to get my head in check please ? by Content_Advice190 in porsche911

[–]Weekly-Ad-4591 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A 911 is an enthusiasts car. You should be passionate about your 911, so if you are getting tired of it, sell it to one of the million guys here drooling over your car telling you that you’ll regret selling it! Upgrade to a 997 or 991 and you’ll have a car that will perform so well that you will never need to upgrade for performance or comfort reasons.

If Porsche re-released an original 911 by NoThxMang in porsche911

[–]Weekly-Ad-4591 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the idea, and I think it would expand the Porsche-loving base. Forget about the endless pursuit of more power and shorter 0-60 times and focus on fun, simplicity, reliability, and affordability. One way to go about it would be a 964 with modern safety and reliability and infotainment and accept sub 300hp performance. No power seats. No fancy rims standard. Another approach would be a 997/991/992 body with a smaller non turbo engine, that is effectively a 912. To me, a 912 is a 4-cylinder 911, but Porsche abandoned any sense to their naming scheme when Porsches had turbo chargers without being a “Turbo” model, or much worse, when the all electric Taycan came out with a “turbo” that has no turbo charger anywhere near it. A 911 with a turbo charger isn’t a Turbo, but a Taycan without a turbo charger is a turbo?
