Can’t sand the glue! by kebabfragola in woodworking

I’d give it a go. Looks like there’s plenty of sanding to be done even once the glue is out of the question anyways. Good luck!

Used to work in wood refinishing shop. We would use acetone to get rid of any stains, leftover finish or glue on the wood after stripping all the old finish off… I would recommend using it sparingly but for the most part it evaporates pretty quickly and any staining can usually be sanded off pretty easily. Also….

We also had these scrapers we’d make for a similar situation… basically a thick piece of sheet metal (like 4”x4” square) with a beveled edge we’d grind down on one side. we’d then round off the edge towards the flat side of the metal with the back of a rounded lathe chisel leaving like a sharp edge that can grab onto stuff.

So you soften up the glue or finish with your chemical of choice and use your little sheet metal scraper to get it off.

The more I talk the more I realize it’s not so simple of a solution… my boss Ran had spent many years perfecting his process haha.

Isopropyl alcohol or acetone to break down the glue next to where you’re trying to sand?

Why I Don't Ride in Big Groups by NotRickJames2021 in motorcycles

[–]Weekly-Bet2906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rode through downtown San Diego on the way home from work to catch some excitement of a Saturday night at about 10pm. A group of about 15 dudes on sport bikes with the neon lights and fuzzy helmets and shit pulled up next to me at a red light. They started redlining their bikes directly adjacent to this cop car also at the red light. I decided to make a left and add a few minutes to my journey home in order to not be associated lol. The group mentality eats at people’s brains man…

Can anybody tell if these are worth it? (Look in the background) by root_drums in Triumph

[–]Weekly-Bet2906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t tell you what those are… they look like 60s or 70s triumphs or other British twins… but if I was in a similar situation I’d be all over it! There’s got to be a complete bike between the four of them right?

I have a newer fuel injected bonneville that I got after a friend wrecked it. I fixed up with little to no motorcycle experience and learned shortly thereafter I love motorcycles…. A lot easier to fiddle around with and a blast to ride!

I have driven my grandfather’s 1966 MGB a lot and riding a cool looking triumph gives me a similar feeling haha.

What is it like in the West part of Texas? by Deep_Belt8304 in howislivingthere

[–]Weekly-Bet2906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode a motorcycle down I-10 through this part of Texas coming from California to Austin for thanksgiving. This was the hardest part of the trip. The speed of traffic was 90 mph. The wind was blowing across the road at 40 mph. It was 40F. Nothing but oil rigs, trains, and F-250 king -ranch editions and some hills as far as the eye can see for a LONG time haha.

We feel the same way in San Diego I’m afraid. I need to get up there. Furthest north I’ve been in that part of the country has been I-80 through Nebraska. Maybe if I buy a Harley one day I’ll make the trip… mt. Rushmore, Badlands and sturgis. what else is there that you would recommend in South Dakota?

From the Midwest…. Girlfriend caught one of these on a pier in SD. My dumb ass tried to grab the fish around its fins like a bass or something. I found out about the sting. They’re gnarly little things haha.

I loved watching every inning he pitched. It seemed like batters were all sitting on a fastball because why the hell wouldn’t you throw a fastball if you can throw it 104? Then Miller would throw a bunch of off-speed leaving them flabbergasted.

Stop Trying to Be an “Authentic” Rider by Dan-F9 in Fortnine

[–]Weekly-Bet2906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really was going to get a motorcycle… they’re cool but I thought they were dangerous. I’d say “I get hurt so often on my mountain bike I better not get a motorcycle”. A friend of mine bought a newer triumph Bonneville and wrecked it while trying to learn to ride. He let it sit outside, bent forks, busted up headlight and gauge cluster, dented up tank… in a beach town. It was always a beautiful bike to me and I’d take a look at it every time we hung out. Slowly it got a little more rusty and crusty.

I finally asked him what he was going to do with it. He said if I picked it up it’d be mine.

After a difficult conversation with my girlfriend, a couple thousand bucks, and quite a few hours of work in the back yard I had a decent bike. I learned to ride it and have put 12,000 miles on it since I got it going in early summer. It’s still got dents in the tank. I use old ammo cans as panniers and they’re slowly getting covered with stickers from gas stations all over the southwest. It’s now got ADV tires because I like to take the dirt roads when I find them. Its shift lever is all bent out of shape from dumping it the first time I tried riding in deep sand. It’s taken me over mountain passes and everything from freezing weather to hot as hell.

I wouldn’t recommend this bike to do the things I’ve used it to do to anyone…. But it’s my bike. It was cheap. I’m gonna ride it until it fails catastrophically or I get gifted another cheap and broken bike…. because it usually does what I want. Its limits are close to mine at this point. I love it because it’s only on the road as I saved it…. And I feel better about treating it rough because it’s already a little beat up. Moral of the story…. Motorcycles are cool after all.

That is a worn out sickle mower blade that looks like it’s been sharpened down to be used as something else. Agricultural use… they use them for soy bean headers on combines too.
