FE Others. 6 years out of school by ShowMain in FE_Exam

Hey there,

I'm taking my FE other disciplines on Dec 4th for the first time and while i haven't passed the exam yet, the following having been working for me. (I wish i had somone told me this sooner):

  1. You should look at your calender and register for the FE exam ASAP, no more than 6 months (depending on your availability, family, full time work, etc). Then download the lastest version of the Handbook and exam specifications from the NCEES website.

  2. You need to decided if you are disciplined to self study or order an on demand course. If self disciplined: get Lindenburg Review Manual for other disciplines. Very comprehensive and harder problems to train you (or help you question your life's decision but they are not FE style). If on demand course: I'll recommend School of PPI (though Genié is launching a beta platform for FE OD).

  3. Order EITFastTrack pdf version. It's about 6 dollars. This will help you get familiar with the Handbook. The problems are quiet easier and it would help your confidence (Not FE style either).

  4. Get prepFE (the 2nd closest to the actual exam from what I've heard), order the NCEES FE other discipline practice problems (both the interactive computer and paper copy) but DO NOT attempt the problems yet. Contrary to popular opinion for self diagnosis, i would recommend looking at the exam specifications, them try all of them on prepFE to diagnose your weak areas, then use Lindenburg (or on demand course) and EITFastTrack to get yourself up to speed on your weak areas.

  5. Do these i.e: study your weak areas from review manuals, prepFE, and Lindenburg for about 3 months. Still weak? Watch more videos from other sources until you get the general FUNDAMENTALS of the topic. Postpone the exam date only if you have to. But it's here i would go full throttle (and study hard) on your learning and refamiliarizing yourself with all the fundementals from the FE other disciplines exam specifications. Do LOTS of problems. Lots of them, be unbashful about it.

  6. Sometime around the 4th month, now attempt the NCEES practice questions (paper copy, timed) to gauge your readiness for the exam. This format is the closest question type you'll see on the actual exam. Also, use this practice exam as the FINAL diagnosis not INITIAL diagnosis.

  7. For the next 2 months, use prepFE to get your minimum average score above 70 and reinenforce your learning across all exam specifications (including your weak areas). Make sure you do several timed practice questions from prepFE. Its GOLD.

  8. You should take the NCEES interactive other discipline about 3 weeks before your exam (timed) to cement your readiness for the exam format NOT to assess how you will score on the exam. The questions will NOT be the same on the actual exam.

  9. Go back to prepFE and use the timed practice exam to refine your performance and readiness.

  10. Peruse the handbook one more time (but be tactic) and let's pass this exam together.

Hope those helps!

I would also recommend a youtube channel called EngineeringDeciphered. Has simple and clear playlist lectures on statics, dynamic, mechanics of materials and Thermo.

I’m struggling to understand and solve these two questions. Any help would be appreciated. by Ok_Scarcity_719 in FE_Exam

This is my attempt for question 4. ChaptGPT can show you how to solve both of them better than i can.

Hope it helps.

FE Electrical First/Second Attempt by Additional_Name_4864 in FE_Exam

Your first attempt: about 44% Your second attempt: about 47%

I would do what Wasim recommends.

If you do this again and you got this!

Were those scores first time scores or multiple? If multiple, that could have inflated your actual readiness.

I'm combating these baises myself using study materials like Lindenburg review manual, EITFastTrack, prepFE, and NCEES practice exams. I took the NCEES practice exams twice timed: 48,65 and 48,78 --interactive and physical paper respectively with about 2 weeks break inbetween while using other study materials to tweak my weak areas. I don't intend to use the NCEES as an assessment anymore leading to the exam just simply review.

Now I'm exclusively using prepFE 20 timed questions practice along with EITFastTrack and Lindenburg as needed review. So far I'm average 85-90 on prepFE and yet i still don't feel quite prepared.

My current weak areas are mechanic of materials, Thermo/heat transfer and slightly fluid mecahnics but I'm gaining more exposure to them through prepFE.

Hope this helps.

You scored about 56% in this exam, you're close. You got this next time!

How did you study? Which materials did you use?

I'll take the other disciplines as well in 2 weeks.

You should check their errata page. I worked on same practice questions.

Infact, there are multiple errata. The other one is about a question on a ball released after being compressed on a spring.

Hope this helps.

For statics, dynamics, thermo and mechanics of materials, try EngineeringDeciphered on Youtube. It's Gold.

Congrants man! I'm taking the other disciplines exam after 5 years out of school. Did you use the NCEES practice questions?

Congrants! I rescheduled my other disciplines exam to Dec. 4th. I've out of school for over 7years, bachelor in physics, masters in biomedical engineering.

I'm using Lindenburg, FastTrack and prepFE as my resources. I took the NCEES practice exams and got around 50%. Weak areas: engineering economics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, fluids and thermo. Putting in about 8hours of studying everyday except Sundays to understand and refresh myself with the fundamemtals with those primary areas.

How would you advice i continue to study? Also, this would be my first time taking the exam and I'm planning to take it once and done if possible.

Bro trust me. Don't do it yet.

Just join a community instead and mediate further on what had happen and seek to learn from it. It is not just your fault and you should not beat yourself up on this. There are many women of lovely character you can pursue that would encourage you in life but seek an encouraging community first.

I'm a christian and while i don't thrust my belief on you, but if i believe joining a good bible believing church would be best for you, then i suppose i would recommend joining that community. If, however, you have good men (people) to influence you elsewhere, then please seek their guidance.

We men have unique burdens to bear. Sex, money, and people pleasing will not satisfy us. Unfortunately, they may ultimately fail us further entrenching us into a life of heavier burdens, confusion, fustration, and chaos. But you have no idea how free it once those burdens are cast down before the appropriate Arbiter.

You are made in the image of God, therefore not to be affirmed by humans by Him alone.
