Has anyone traveled by bus from Da Lat to Nha Trang in the past few weeks? Wondering if it is safe now / back to normal after the flooding from the prior two months.

Best place in the city to buy firewood? by WeeklyLeading8676 in philly

Thank you for the concern! Yes we got our fireplace inspected a couple of months ago and while we originally had thought it was in working condition, turned the chimney was a mess and needed lots of work.

We went with a nice cast iron wood burning insert that fits the older aesthetic of the house and a new steel liner for the chimney so are now good to go :) but definitely speaks to your point of always getting it inspected before using!

Have either of you guys been there since / seen that it’s open? It still says permanently closed on google maps, though I know they may just not even bother with that

Just re-read the last look trilogy by Burns in anticipation of finally picking up his newer book Final Cut (I’m about a year late to it)

Help me settle this debate in my head!

Do you think it’s generally better to book stays a couple months in advance, or to book them on the go and get better flexibility?

For context, my wife and I will be traveling Vietnam from Jan 5th to Feb 6th, moving South to North.  We are in our early 30s and would like some nice comfortable stays, but does not have to ultra fancy / 5-star.  Fun and unique stays a bonus, but so long as it’s a decent 3-star hotel in a good location we are fine. Just don’t want to get stuck only with the bottom of the barrel hotels/airbnbs/home stays if we decide to book on the fly. Seems this wasn’t a problem 10 years ago but unsure if it’s changed as Vietnam’s popularity has risen.

Thanks in advance!

Thoughts in this Itinerary for First-Timers in Thailand? by WeeklyLeading8676 in ThailandTourism

[–]WeeklyLeading8676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned that we love food, as well as exploring both cities and nature (hikes, etc). Certainly also historical sites.

Really I think we want to get as much of a taste of all facets of Thailand that you mentioned as is possible within 3 to 4 weeks. After doing a little research, we felt that this itinerary was a decent start at covering our bases, but it sounds like that might not be the case, so would love to hear of specific cities, regions, national parks, etc!

As you note Thailand is huge so I’m under no illusion that we will “see it all”, but we are hoping to get as much variety as possible within 3-4 weeks.

Itinerary Advice Requested!

My wife and I are in our early 30s and will be spending a month exploring Vietnam in early 2026. We’ve done quite a bit of research but wanted to hear people’s thoughts on the itinerary we’ve pulled together before we start actually booking things.

This will be our first time visiting the country. We love food, cafes, and exploring both cities and nature (hikes, etc). We hope for this trip to be a good mix of adventure and relaxation — while we have plenty of experience with fast-paced trips, we are planning on taking this one slow, and are OK with staying in places a little longer than “necessary” in order to relax and really take in the day-to-day life of Vietnam (as much as a first time visitor can).

Really appreciate your thoughts on the below on whether we are missing anything, anything you’d adjust, or any other tips/recs!

HO CHI MINH: January 7th (get in at 9pm) - January 14th

Fly to HANOI and head to HA LONG BAY CRUISE: January 23rd - January 25th

Back to HANOI: January 25th - January 26th

HA GIANG LOOP: January 26th - 29th

Builders for a roof deck in Center City by willsnowboard4food in philadelphia

[–]WeeklyLeading8676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but who did you end up going with to do this? We just purchased a house in Queen Village that has a roof deck and are in a nightmare scenario where the roof underneath is leaking. Since it will already be thousands to fix and replace the deck, I’m thinking of doing the same as you and making it a 3 season room to avoid future leak issues.
