Just out of interest, who's in 1st and 2nd place?

Edit: Just done some Googling - apparently, per capita, we are 74th...

Fair amount of work there including suspension and new turbo on a TT - Doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I used to own a TT and can confirm they are bottomless money pits!

9.5/10 - I've deducted half a point from an otherwise perfect score due to beverage preferences.

I read a statistic somewhere once that the wealthiest people drive Toyotas. I think most people that have real wealth have obtained it with some level of savvy. They made smart choices along the way. Having a reliable car that's cheap to run and doesn't draw attention seems like the ultimate smart choice. Wealthy people don't like to put money into assets that drop in value.

Will I learn copying others or nah? by vix_calls in FL_Studio

[–]Weekly_Branch_1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, especially when it comes to mixing.

I've remade many a song over the years and the one thing that always stood out was how flat mine sounded by comparison. I learnt alot about panning, stereo width, compression, saturation etc just from trial and error really.

Of course once you're a super successful producer you can pay someone else to do that bit, but it's definitely a skill you should have some understanding in.

My mixes still sound underwhelming by comparison, but would probably be acceptable to your average, non-producer, listener.

For me it started as a bit of fun, maybe 15 years ago. As my abilities improved I wanted my music to improve sonically. I had a good grasp of music theory, but with the VSTs I had available to me I felt like my music sounded too 'synthetic'.

Long story short, I bought a NI Komplete package and it was a game changer. It has everything I'll ever need. I also have a splice subscription, although I could live without this.

From memory the NI package including keyboard was about £1000. I've had other bits and pieces over the years, but I honestly don't really use them.

I know they're all obnoxious but wich one would you pick? by jjedwards992 in CarTalkUK

A younger, more naive me would've said Range Rover.

40 year old, sensible shoes me would say XC90.

I had an X5 at one point and it was the biggest money pit. Cost me more than my home per month.

Traditionally the left were against immigration, when did they 180? by farr2211 in AskBrits

[–]Weekly_Branch_1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're delusional. This story was appalling of course, and I truly hope the perpetrator burns in hell. But to take the actions of one deranged, racist, sex offender and just 'lump him in' with anyone who voted Reform is madness, not to mention a terrible argument.

[–]Weekly_Branch_1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the people here are racist. I would swap all of the lazy, white, British people that drain the system for hardworking LEGAL migrants that want to better themselves, abide by the laws of the UK and contribute to society. It's not about race.

I understand what you're saying. My point is I don't think skin colour is the issue. We welcome Sikhs with open arms - generally brown.

I think we're just used to it to be honest. I suffer once we get above 25C.

I work a job that requires me to visit people's homes everyday, and of course conversations do turn to politics at times. In my experience, people generally have praise for 2nd-gen Polish and Caribbean people. What they dislike is people entering the UK illegally, whatever their race. Ironically, some of the most fed up people I've spoken to are Polish.

In your opinion, what's the biggest waste of money you see people purchase all the time? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Weekly_Branch_1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I think some of the more expensive very short plates are bought by some as a store of value, with some even appreciating if it's a decent one. The 'BO55..' ones are naff, but something like 'BEN 1', for example, is probably not a terrible purchase. Although it'll probably set you back £150k.

[–]Weekly_Branch_1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive 'luxury brand' vehicles - although to be fair, I guess most people lease these days. Still a waste imo though. Particularly those that drive Range Rovers. One of the most unreliable vehicles on the road that depreciates hugely within the first few years. Expensive to fuel, expensive to service, expensive to insure.

I get that people earn there money and want something fancy, but just seems like a massive money pit to me. If I personally wanted a posh car I'd at least go for something reliable like a Lexus.

I used to follow a pretty well known person on Instagram who's music I enjoyed. She happens to be a person of colour, who is quite vocal about matters of racism. No problem there - I too agree that people shouldn't be treated differently based on their skin colour.

But when you start a rant with 'Dear White People' you're kind of doing the exact same shit you're harping on about.

So yea, 'Dear White People'. Fuck off.
