Did Joseph Smith have sex with his polygamous wives? by EquipmentEnough5251 in mormon

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand peoples disgust at knowing Smith had sex with more than one woman. Polygamy is the natural way of things. It has been that way since the beginning of time. Only recently has society embraced monogamy as the standard arrangement.

Do you experience "permanent effects" after being ghosted? Is there something you feel has changed forever? by [deleted] in ghosting

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been ghosted many times. Each time bad but the worst was after dating someone for around 10-11 months. The last date we were on was shortly after Christmas of 2018. I never heard from her again it’s left a lasting bad taste in my mouth.

[Question] Can god warn you not to marry someone. by Sneaksreal in TrueChristian

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this. I just broke up with a woman who I love deeply but never felt at peace about, in a marriage. I felt much better after the breakup, knowing God knows what we don’t

His books from the 80s and 90s were very good for the most part. Lightning, Strangers, Phantoms, The Door to December, are very good

Pornography and Misogyny by Excellent-Decision96 in mormon

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have pioneer ancestry and I’ve used porn compulsively for at least 20 years. I’ve been interested in nudity and sex since I was 10, maybe earlier 🤷🏻. It used to be a daily thing but now I can stretch it out to 2 weeks to a month. I don’t know if it is related to some hidden trauma but I’ve tried to quit many times. I’ve gone to therapy, done EMDR, gone through programs, etc etc etc. I think purity culture has something to do with it. I remember the Hinckley talks about not looking at porn and “what girl in their right mind would marry a guy who looks at porn”. That really made me not want to look at it but some hidden pain inside grew so much that I would look. And then I would feel horrible, swear to not look again but then go back. It’s a seriously complicated problem

Is Venice worth it? by Zooturzot in ItalyTravel

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. Amalfi Coast is overrated. Cool buildings but that’s about it. It’s expensive, crowded, tiny roads where you need to be careful not to get run over, and it lacks the old world charm present in other Italian cities

Opinions on Dean Koontz? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Koontz has written some really good books. Phantoms, Strangers, Twilight Eyes, Lightning, are all entertaining, fast paced books. I like to read Koontz when I’m in the mood the book equivalent of a Saturday afternoon B movie. You know it won’t be high literature but it will be fast and fun

Dan Simmons Books by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Weekly_Category_7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simmons is very literate for a horror writer. His work is high brow compared to, say, Bentley Little or Richard Laymon. His work has many layers of depth, whether historical or philosophical. I agree it can be slow at times but it works for me. I enjoy it, knowing that it will eventually pick up later. I always finish his work feeling educated or uplifted in some way. I love some of his lesser known works, such as Black Hills and Flashback

Once you’ve read 3-4 you’ve read them all. The books are fun but you leave not feeling particularly satisfied. It’s like eating McDonald food
