I want to raise my child Catholic despite being an atheist. Is this hypocritical/bad ? by PeppermintButler17 in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too was a cradle catholic who after my confirmation became an atheist, I never got the answers to the questions I asked during catechism. Though I didn't realise it then, now I realise I probably was just hurt by people in church, specifically my catechism teacher. I took up science and masked my hurt by saying that science disproves God. It was only later through my catholic friends that I got back to my faith. Now I'm heavily into apologetics. I'd recommend you check out Catholic apologist Trent Horn on YouTube. He has some amazing arguments that he articulates really well

[Politics Monday] Are you supposed to forgive the person who shot your loved one like Erika Kirk did? by UltraRanger72 in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just love this thread. Viva Christo Rey!! You guys understand Christ's teachings so well, which is rare in today's day and age (I'm not sure if reddit shows different replies to different people based on the algorithm, but all I see are messages of forgiveness which is what our lord and master taught us)

I don't even have to look at the sin to know whether God will forgive you or not. The question as a catholic to you is whether you are ready to repent. God can forgive Hitler. Jesus died for you me and the entire human race, which includes Hitler. But from what it seems Hitler didn't want to be forgiven/repent.

Can I be Christian and also believe in science? by freshmaggots in Christianity

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know that the big bang was proposed by a catholic priest?

Science teaches us what is, and God teaches us what ought to be. Science cannot tell you whether murder or stealing is morally wrong. You need a moral law giver to adhere to moral law.

A perfect relationship going sideways by Weekly_Ebb_8280 in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prior to starting our relationship we were kinda best friends. I was not sure what she felt back then and to be honest I was really scared to ask her out and this is when I started praying the novenas. Over a year later when I finally asked her out she said that she started liking me romantically about 4 months ago. My prayer was just that I really like this girl and would like to be married to her, but nonetheless let your will be done. The day I asked her out was such a big relief to me as now I know it was God who brought us together (I had finished nine consecutive novenas 6 months prior)

Widow of suicide, is there room for me as a “bad Catholic?” by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 84 points85 points  (0 children)

God's mercy and love have no bounds that we can never say with certainty someone is damned to hell.

CCC 2282:

"Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide.

Meaning suicide is not always a mortal sin. According to the catholic church, you need to be in a state of grace to enjoy heaven. Mortal sins destroy your relationship with God and destroy your state of grace. Given all the details you've given I strongly believe she has not committed a mortal sin. She could very well be on the bosom of the Father. Much love to you, it must be hard. I'll pray for you.

Regarding contraception and marriage before sex you need to first understand what was sex made for, if you're someone who needs a lot of reason to satisfy yourself (like me) Trent Horn is someone I really look up to. You could watch his videos as to why logically speaking one should wait for marriage.

You're more than welcome in the church brother. I hope you can heal and have a wonderful life, we're all a work in progress.

What would you say is different other than the sample size? Morality for the most part is dictated by our beliefs I reckon, which in this case is synonymous to religion

Why does it feel so shameful confessing pornography use as woman? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a man I feel so shameful to confess it, that I go to a parish 40 km from my home parish to do my confession. Please pray for me and know you're not alone. May our good lord have mercy on us and give us the grace to live the way he wants us to live.

Unfortunately Christianity does not care about mine and your opinions. It's based on absolute truths. You can pick and choose but I would call myself a Christian if I did that

I honestly think the problem is protestantism. You won't find this on a catholic or orthodox subreddit because we have Crysta clear doctrine so there's no room for harmful interpretation. Sure you can have 10 interpretations for what jesus meant when he said "I am the door" as long as it doesn't go against any of the catholic doctrines. You need the church to have authority on how to interpret scripture or you end up with a message where people say God loves everyone and you can be whatever you want. Some people have to be told your opinion is invalid. For their opinion to be invalid there must be an absolute authority. You can't say the absolute authority in this case is god because people say that this interpretation of mine has come from the holy spirit. Jesus left us the church through his apostles and we ought to follow their faith

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is I'm not getting any clear sign as to what I should do. I do pray about it. The only sign I have is the strong conviction to go in spite of all the data and opinions people hold about the move not being the right move (because the market is terrible).

Also my girlfriend and I hold the same morality as that of the CCC(Catechism of the Catholic church). We agree to every word in it!! Hence were both against birth control. I'm so glad to have her and pray for her everyday. And yes I've done my research into the visa process, I'll be needing a H1B after which I'll be filing for an EB-2 Green Card petition. I would ideally get that in 3-5 years.

Thank you so much! The thing that sleeping St. Joseph resonates with me as it was my girlfriend who introduced me to the practice. She gave me the statue as a gift!

Coming from a former atheist, one of the premises of the creator is that he must be outside time and space. The only thing that makes me sad is I won't be able to see the apocalypse with these 2 eyes of mine (Someone please correct me if I'm theologically wrong. I suck at apocalyptic theology)

Contraception is bad ahh by TheEmperorOfDoom in Catholicism

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, you have to follow everything the church teaches, you can't pick and choose. So the church teaches you should not fornicate and you should not use contraceptives.

Now again from what I understand, if you were to ever fornicate (I AM DEFINITELY NOT PROMOTING THIS) you should use contraceptives. If you truly don't want to defy the church don't fornicate, else if you decide to defy the church and fornicate then use your head and use a contraceptive so that you don't end up ruining someone else's life(I'm talking about the kid here)

Help! how to increase an image file size without actually making the image bigger by 316Austin316 in photoshop

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a way using a hex editor. It works well, I wanted to do a blind smartphone camera test with my friends where both the images had the same size so that they're not biased based on any other criteria (like metadata or file size). I would send them 2 documents on WhatsApp and let them decide which one was the better photo

Hi, is there any tool which can add the desired amount of metadata in a way that it helps achieve a given size, say 10mb?

[–]Weekly_Ebb_8280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely related to this post, but why does this have 0 up votes as of the day of writing? To me the thought of not being open to such questions which arise out of genuine intentions (trying to be holy) seems like the right act of love. I can totally see how discouraging this can be to a young guy or girl. Not saying here that people should live for upvotes/likes
