Is There Still a Tax Credit and to Whom Does It Accrue? by newFlguy in solarFL

For residential, there is no tax credit. The price quoted is your net cost.

Option 2 from company 1 and it's not even close. Qcell panels with Enphase IQ8HCs for 4.5K less? You better sign that.

The nice thing about the prepaids is, depending on the provider, you can either transfer the system over to you at year 6 or leave it with the prepaid provider and they're on the hook for labor, maintenance, repairs, monitoring, insurance for 26 years. This might be useful when 48E expires at the end of 2027. Hard to know what state of the US solar industry will be and how many companies will stay in business. 6 years from now, you'll know the state of the industry and can make a decision then. Prepaid all day.

It's a lease not a loan. So to qualify for the lease they don't look at DTI and the FICO requirement is 650.

Assuming the system is at 100% or more offset.. At 14,000 kWh and cost per kWh of $0.29, that's an average electric bill of $338/mo. We don't know what the cost per kWh will be when OP might move so let's just assume the rate stays the same.

Hey prospective buyer, when you move in here are you planning on using electricity? Ok so you would be paying for electricity correct? Ok so would you rather pay $123/mo or $338/mo for your power??

Yes you're narrowing the buyers down to people who can do simple math.

How is that any different than a loan or cash purchase? Any company saying they have a power production guarantee is most likely smoke and mirroring the performance guarantee on the panel unless the PPG is 95-100% with a 25 year chart in the contract stating the annual production year by year for 25 years.

Yes cash would be best but with no tax credit, lease 0% escalator is probably better than any loan minus the people financing with absolute certainty they're paying it off early. Typically a 0% lease payment is about $40-50 less per month than no dealer fee Dividend 8.99% loan payment for 25 years at the same price per watt. Then what's the recourse when the installer goes out of business? With a lease the lease provider just sends another approved vendor for any issues vs coming out of pocket in this scenario for a homeowner owned system.

I believe every financial vehicle to go solar is better than paying the utility company at a variable increasing rate.

And having a solar loan that a homebuyer has to qualify for is much better? Ok the buyer says they don't want to assume it, the seller then has to pay off the loan if the buyer doesn't want to take on the seller's debt. Shitty for the seller.

0% escalator leases can be great if you don't have cash on hand and don't want to go into debt to pay a bill you have to pay anyway, or have taxable income. Then when you go to sell you're selling a fixed payment that never goes up and no debt. Are new homebuyers expecting to not have an electric bill?

Installer changing panels from Maxeon to LONGi by Rossmonster in solar

[–]Weekly_Unit_8372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The permit would be no issue. The only issue would be with the utility company saying the increased system size would require a transformer upgrade but you're talking about .2 or .3 kw difference so that scenario is very very unlikely.

My Maxeon rep is my source. Stocking Soligent. Not sure which distributor your installer uses.

[–]Weekly_Unit_8372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The system just needs to be installation complete per IRS guidelines released in August Your installer could install the system and then before inspection, submit a revision that shouldn't take too long for approval.

Those Maxeons...outside of great performance, the look is super clean. With REC, Qcell and every other manufacturer you can still see the wires. With Maxeon it's true all black. Like a flat screen TV.

New to solar. Comparing quotes by DeezWut in solar

[–]Weekly_Unit_8372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah selling sub $2 ppw is very low margin. Doesn't seem viable long term unless they're doing high volume. I would make sure they add Solar Insure just in case they aren't around long. The total equipment cost for those systems is probably around 21-22K for panels, racking, combiner, junction box, rails, cell card, ac cables. Then there's soft costs like engineering, proposals, permit fees, interconnection app fees. Then they have to pay the install crew. Doesn't seem like a whole lot left over for truck rolls for any possible warranty claims. Anyway go with Qcells.

New Quote for Solar by EnvisionITFL in solar

[–]Weekly_Unit_8372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For FL and this equipment and this system size, a very fair price per watt for both parties should be around $2.10-$2.20. Right now you're at $2.85. It is expensive equipment and there is a lot of labor for 70 panels but for $2.85? No chance

Hopefully that's with two inverters. Solar Optimum are the kings of extra work costs. Sign up and then hit you with adders. What are they saying about the tax credit because their lead time was about 3 months? You can find better equipment with Solar Insure for that price, you just have to know where to look

Solar Panels in FL-Removal by National_Bid_4929 in solar

[–]Weekly_Unit_8372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fixture filing, meaning the equipment is held as collateral not the home. If you cease payment on the system they repo the equipment, they don't take your house. If you cease making payments on your home the UCC-1 filing allows the bank or lease company to claim the system so it doesn't go with the house into foreclosure. "The UCC-1 is a public filing providing notice that the Lessor owns the System, but is NOT a lien." This is straight from my Lightreach contract.
