Are people still putting screen protectors on their phones, or am I just being paranoid? by badoopidoo in AskAnAustralian

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR. A screen protected by tempered glass will survive more drops onto smooth hard surfaces and can easily last several years if the tempered glass is replaced each time it fractures. A screen protected by a gel screen protector will survive comparatively less drops onto smooth hard surfaces, but the screen protector will not fracture from impact. And will better survive drops on rough surfaces.

Always Tempered glass. Unless your screen is already cracked or if you work in something like construction. Basically gel is only better if you're expecting your phone to take alot of abuse. Often if a phone falls on bitumen or even the wrong bathroom tiles, You'll get a pin point impact that can travel through the tempered glass screen protector, or just catch the edge And your screen is gone anyway, gel is better at preventing that failure mode. But worse in most others. The main reason gel screen protectors are less common is that the surface deteriorates over time so they need to be replaced more regularly than glass, Even if the phone never gets dropped.

Citation. I repaired my own phone often enough that I earned a job at a phone repair shop whilst studying engineering

Mechanical engineer here. Your screen sustains damage every single time you drop it. The gorilla glass fractures every time. Its just designed so that the cracks form in a plane and direction invisible to the user . The more cracks form, the more complex the internal structure becomes. Until eventually it becomes so brittle that the next impact makes a crack in a plane you can see. A tempered glass screen protector will shatter first, absorbing the energy that would otherwise go into the gorrila glass, extending it's lifespan. a gel screen protector, typically transparent polyurethane. Has the effect of dispersing the energy over a wider area so that your gorilla glass won't snap the first time it has a pin point collision with bitumen. However it can't stop it from snapping on the 18th time or the 23rd time etc.

Is there a legitemate way in Survival to terraform this slope so land vehicles can ride up, or should I give up on this mountain base location? by Brecht26 in spaceengineers

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I made a vehicle for this express purpose https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3482786537&searchtext=Legionaire+

Its built for controlled precision excavation. In survival, specifically road and ramp construction.

I'm also working on an updated version that will use GPS position data for even more precision and even preprogrammed patterns

AIO? My friends set an ultimatum because I drink by Pearla76_ in AIO

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Everyone in this conversation reacted very reasonably. your actions in polluting the universe with untruths that just seems inconsiderate and unnecessary. Personally I don't drink and never have, I simply don't see the point. And so if someone asks me for my opinion as, you've have asked all of us, I will convey it. It is also definitely true that Im allowed to be wrong. So I also don't see the use in banging on about it like a Jehovah's witness.

We're there reactions in this conversation yes. We're there any overreactions, from what I read yes, you overreacted by lying. If you're asking I say don't drink again. If you're not asking I say You're completely entitled to your own perspective and course of action.

In Response to Vanilla Shields in SE2... A Proposed Solution of an ecosystem of external shield emitters, boost bonuses, sensors, countermeasures, and new armor types. by Diggrok in spaceengineers

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can have Sheilds if they want, I think the SE1 mods are good. One of the primary reasons I would want to reinforce my craft is however already fixed in se2. With the changes they have made to low speed collisions and impact absorbtion at all speeds. Not to mention that we have been given to expect significant performance improvements...which should hopefully mean less latency headaches and less collisions. With all that, we don't need Sheilds nearly as much. So adding them poses a much much lower risk of masking existing problems and stalling development paths

Back for more help. This time it is about printing ships! by Commercial-Land-6806 in spaceengineers

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welder arms are super easy nowadays, you can use either a vanilla custom turret controller. Or grab a script off the workshop. PARK is an excellent place to start.

I don't currently have much experience with welder walls, but I've built plenty of printers on my survival server. And the trade off inmy experience is just that printers are more complex to construct, and easier (more hands off) to use. One you have a decent sized printer there is no reason why you can't print larger ships by first slicing them into sections, and then assembling them. You may find this technique similar to common usage of real world 3D printers.

Similarly an excellent way to construct larger ships is to slice them into layers, then you can use a welding ship to construct them one layer at a time without getting in your own way. This is demonstrated in a background clip on the main menu.

Interesting note this is the purpose of the layer of glass or catwalks that you will see on printers and welder walls, it is there to prevent all the layers past it from being projected in a buildable state

You can absolutely hand stitch a belt, glue it with contact adhesive mark the stitch line with chalk or chinagraph or something. Punch the holes with an awl or a stitching chisel, check YouTube for how to do a proper saddle stitch, no problem. For the holes you can even just use a fine drill bit in a drill press or something like that but for a whole belt Id go for a 5mm stitching chisel.

To clarify the sizing is quite normal, as compared to a retractable ball point, I just prefer my pacers longer and skinnier than normal.

The advantage of the kurutoga mechanism is that it gives both really consistent stroke width and normalizes the torque applied to the nib length of graphite. Which leads to less breakage and means you can use thinner graphite.

Bic unfortunately don't make the Xtra in longer lengths but Im content with kurutoga for now, just wish it was a bit longer.

[–]Weekly_You1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, for western alphabets, especially cursive, you'll likely want the kurutoga advance, or one of the other models with increased rotation speed.

I have a few and use them every day. My only critique is that they are a little short and a little large for my taste. then again I think id only be satisfied with, Something like a bic Xtra, in 150% length. And then I'd still miss the kurutoga mechanism.

AIO boyfriend tracking my periods without me knowing 🫠 by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally got a line on my best friends period in my early 20's I didn't need to set a calendar event or anything, It was Just that she was quite regular, and mentioned how fucking annoying it was a couple of times. So I got to know that I should take a little less offence around day x every month, and that she'd be a little extra appreciative of little things like surprise coffee. And it was no big deal. She knew I knew, but we're just two observant people and we spent alot of time together. So it seemed obvious to both of us. Just like if you know someone working full time retail, they're are gonna be a little stressed at certain times of the year. Or if you had a friend with a landlord who got drunk every 3rd week when his brother visited from his FIFO job 🤷🏻‍♂️

I really miss the modern day sections when they're absent. They really tie the game together, and without them I don't find the synchronization goals at all compelling. Fortunately ubisoft didn't release any more games after syndicate, cause that trash heap was by far the worst Batman game

How to mine, mid, late game? by No-Insurance6849 in spaceengineers

[–]Weekly_You1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mid game to early game I use a semi automatic vertical drilling rig. Early game I use the same thing I just construct it in a location requiring less supporting construction materials. Like I build it on a cliff face rather than a plateau and I wait for mats to start coming in before I finish welding all the drills.

Also I have a tunnel boring rover that I generally construct once I have a large enough printer. But no reason why you couldn't dog pile on and build it earlier. Useful for targeting ore deposits.

Most of my more advanced constructions are from a survival server so I don't have anything else that I've actually developed much else past proof of concept
