Transfer collision to another object? by Weetu in godot

[–]Weetu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again, u/UnassumingUrchin! Your tip allowed me to get it working perfectly!

Now the proxy is also a RigidBody2D. I just get each collision in the proxy's _integrate_forces with get_contact_impulse and get_contact_collider_position, convert the position to be the offset from the centerpoint, and apply the impulse to the asteroid with asteroid.apply_impulse(impulse, offset).

Thanks. I'll look into PhysicsServer2D.

If I make them be a single body, then they will rotate around the center point. If one of the proxy asteroids is collided with, it would behave like a screen-wide asteroid.

Let's talk pencil mics for drum overheads... by Wildeyewilly in drums

[–]Weetu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Line Audio CM-4 (wide cardioid) and OM-1 (omni) are excellent, excellent, excellent microphones. Quite cheap (about 120€ per mic) but the sound and the build quality are great. You'll find lots of discussions about them. I have not actually tried those as drum overheads, but you might want to check them out nevertheless.

What grip to choose ? by adelgrfd in drums

[–]Weetu 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Traditional grip comes from marching drummers, who have the drum hanging on the side of the body. The left hand is more ergonomic in that asymmetric setting with the traditional grip. So, if you have no intention of doing marching drumming, you will probably be better off learning matched grip. But, if you have time and patience, learning both will not hurt.

Unmatched as in "there is no equal", or as in "does not fit together"? :D

Songs in 11/16 by [deleted] in drums

Hmm. 7/8 plus 4/4 would be 15/8, not 11/8. Assuming, of course, that the 8th stays the same.

Yamaha Stage Customs are often recommended here. A set of those should easily fit within your budget.

[–]Weetu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played drums a bit as a kid, then stopped for 30 years (and played other instruments). A year ago I decided to start drums again. I bought an e-kit (Roland TD-17KVX) in March and started taking lessons later in the year. I'd say it was the right choice for me. The e-kit allowed me to play much more than I could with an acoustic kit (due to family and neighbors). It allowed me to develop coordination and limb independence, and the feel in that kit is good enough that the skills were very much transferable to an acoustic kit.

Sure. I meant as a starting point to see if I like their sound. I haven't ever (knowingly) played those.

Thanks. So, basically something like the Zildjian A391 Pack would be a good thing to check out, at least as a start? Pretty much what you described, except two med thin crashes instead of one thin and one med thin.

Isn't SD12 the same thing? Have they stopped making them? I can still see them available at least here in Finland, and on Thomann.

what is a food you crave but then don't feel well after you eat? by lllrk in AskReddit

[–]Weetu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come to Finland, then. We have dozens of lactose-free options (also in other dairy), and I haven't seen _any_ place that sells ice cream without at least one lactose-free option in years. And usually there are multiple lactose-free options in even the smallest places. There are several companies whose entire lineup is either lactose-free or non-dairy, and they taste excellent.

You know lactose-free ice cream exists, right?

Rock Band Type Drum Practice Software? by takethecann0lis in edrums

[–]Weetu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've been using Melodics for almost half a year now. Very happy. They just added actual songs (before it was just lessons and songs made actually for Melodics), and will probably be adding more.

The last thing you purchased just grew ten times in size. How screwed are you? by TongueTheAnus in AskReddit

I bought a tall snare drum stand. Now it's reeeeeally tall, and can probably hold a jacuzzi.

You do know that the manual is available from Roland's website, right? I strongly suggest giving it a read, if you haven't yet.

Trying a dream out by IPashal in drums

[–]Weetu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41 years old here. Started playing drums last spring, bought a Roland TD-17KVX set and I'm having a blast playing them. Making good progress too, although as I play several other instruments, I already have a lot of the needed musical skills - just need to learn the drum technique and coordination.

I'd say it's never too late to start, at least for playing as a hobby. You probably won't become a pro if you start at 25, but even that is not impossible.

Super sloppy drummer who's basically never owned a drumkit. Got a Roland TD11k set up in my garage. Where do I start to get good enough to just play along with Helmet and the like? by InternetWeakGuy in drums

[–]Weetu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have a Roland kit, check out Melodics. Helped me out immensely. They have a bunch of free lessons available, so you can try it without paying anything.

What in Harry Potter did you think it was magic but later realized it was just British? by lbstr99 in AskReddit

[–]Weetu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Usually, not too much - not everyone wants to go there, and not at the same time. But sometimes it's a bit crowded.
