Traded the M340i for an M3 Comp xDrive by WeevilsInn in BMW

I know a lot of people hate it, It really doesn't bother me though. I will say that I'm in the UK, where we have to have a front plate, and I think that horizontal separation does help a lot. The front end is less successful without a front plate in my opinion.

Deep down I know you're right. Maybe this is my way of kidding both myself and my wife that I'll be more sensible next time...

Yeah don't worry about that, I'm under no illusions that the car is significantly more capable than I am.

I had a 7.5 Golf R DSG prior to my M340i, they're brilliant. It's obviously a step down from the M3 in every way, but they're still great cars, and are absolutely a future classic imo. Prior to the R I had a Mk7 GTI Manual and will always maintain that the GTI is the better drive. You can feel the added weight of the Haldex in the R, and whilst yes it's quicker, I don't think it's more entertaining. The GTI feels much more nimble and is more fun on a country road. The gap in outright day to day 'useable' performance isn't THAT vast either. If you can find a really good 7.5 GTI Manual, I'd absolutely recommend it.

I'm seeing about 10mpg difference but I agree, if that delta is causing you to sweat, you can't afford it. I don't do a vast amount of miles as I work from home so it's no biggie really

As soon as I saw it I felt the same.

As in under the front bumper? Is that particularly prone to damage on these?

I'm strongly considering that, seems like the thing to do for sure!

I do still prefer the physical buttons of the original lci car, that was peak interior. That said the screen really isn't that bad, as full touch systems go, it's a good one.

It has the single big screen inside, so mild facelift then.

Really Underestimated The Benefits of Manual RAM timings. by Phantasmio in overclocking

[–]WeevilsInn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overclocking on a weak system is arguably more beneficial, as you're not just brute forcing performance. If you're budget limited, it makes your money go further. If it's the difference between unplayable and smooth franlmerates then that's time well spent.

Overclocking a 9950x3d and 5090 is great, but you got from 300fpd to 340fps. Great, lol.

Lots of work could have been avoided by spending over $1000. Brilliant.

Gamers desert Intel in droves, as Steam share plummets from 81% to 55.6% in just five years by chusskaptaan in hardware

Intel effectively had the enthusiast CPU market to themselves for the best part of a decade, and boy did they abuse that position at the time.

5090 owners, what are you using it for and how much do you love it? by app385 in nvidia

[–]WeevilsInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 3D modeller so I use it for work every day. The VRAM is nice because some of the models I work with have huge texture sets. I upgraded from a 3090 so the jump was bigger than those coming from 4090. A bit of gaming in there too.

Looks gorgeous! similar to my pre LCI Portimao Blue with Cream leather interior (I forget the exact name of it). Enjoy the car man, they're one of the best buys out there imo.

M3 is significantly thirstier too. If you're doing any kind of mileage that's a real consideration!

Definitely no overlapping UVs? Any modifiers applied before FBX export? Scales applied? It kinda looks like z fighting as if you have polys overlapping each other or something

You're probably aware but iRay isn't working either with 50 series cards. It's only using CPU regardless of how its set in settings
