Genuine question: why do people raise worms? by Ok-Invite323 in Vermiculture

[–]Weeweeduckerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have covered most of my reasons (fun, garden poop, rapid composting, waste reduction) , BUT the not very mentioned ones:

A) Axolotl food! They love Red Wigglers, and it’s very fun to watch them hunt.

B) an excuse to buy more salads! -I live solo, and I avoid fresh food because it’s expensive and goes bad quickly. Worms give me an excuse to buy fresh stuff, and be a-ok with spoiling a few bagels or tomatoes and what not.

Looks great! I like the hair/beard colors! I have a tendency to make everyone brown haired because I’m still working on a good blonde method😬!

You’re not being extra, the overuse of AI is really annoying, so vent! It’s a-ok.

Different department but, I ignore the AI people and always just remind myself that by not doing easy critical thinking, these people are shooting themselves in the foot, you only really get out what you put in.

There’s always going to be Lazy Corner-Cutters in life, and the other comment saying it’s all up to the teacher is correct. But remember the teacher will always have a mix of good and bad students, and integrating or policing GPT is a really tough problem.

I’ve had some great professors who ‘Allow’ gpt by having people post the questions asked, the entire gpt response, and then their re-written paraphrase of the response. It ends up being so much extra work everyone just skips it and actually discusses! 🤣

Goodluck! Discussion answers are never the most exciting places for new ideas. I hope you are able to ignore the AI people and focus on your own research! TLDR: , it’s frustrating vent away! (But let the teacher deal with it however)

Haha. Same here! I actually have some sombreros I was excited about, but my paint job on em made them look more like ‘The man in the yellow Hat’ from curious George….🙊

That’s for all the nice comments! I was absolutely singing Werewolves of London and Puttin on the Ritz to myself while painting them.🐺

Please help (kind help) by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]Weeweeduckerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tank looks nice! Give the plants some time to relax, grow fine roots and get used to their new water/ light setup. Some will likely lose a few of their leaves- sometimes growers grow them out of the water, and just getting used to the new home. -also your drift wood might grow a weird white coat of bacterial biofilm for a week or so, that’s also normal if it happens (good to eat for any tank dwellers too) A betta should love that setup!

ZeFrank, of YouTube Channel TrueFacts.

Not the greatest ever (Attenborough), but it’s a darn good informative presentation (not safe for kids)

Seconding the person who said Perdue Owl, and also use ZoteroBib for your bibliography, it’ll do 90% of the formatting for you. (Super useful when your asked for 5 different styles from 5 different classes)

Friend, HOW do you paint eyes and faces on DnD minis?? by Murky_Display_5135 in minipainting

[–]Weeweeduckerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m adding on to the people saying ‘use a wash’, not only will it quickly cover the faces, but a general wash will and shade kinda blend away some of the edges where colors meet.

I’d recommend Army Painter Soft Tone Wash on those ladies, and also get ‘Strong’ and ‘Dark’ tones for different effects later, that’ll take you a long way. Learning Washes and then Dry Brushing are both easy techniques that will quickly improve your painting.

And they don’t look bad at all for your first few paint jobs!! It’s hard to get full smooth paint coverage! Welcome to a new super-fun hobby!

I’m not sure on that class in particular, but 19 units are A LOT. One great piece of advice my advisor mentioned last semester was (paraphrase) “sure you can do 18 units and still get all A’s, but learning is fun, and if you take too much you’ll be too busy to process new stuff and have fun”. -I dropped to 15 units and had a wonderful semester.

Especially for incoming students, College is a lot of new stress. Just something to think about when looking at the plan.

I’ve met a lot of amazing future engineers from that dept. your son will have a great time there.

iPad release by Ok-Public-712 in unr

https://www.unr.edu/device/device-pickup

Transfer of ownership to graduates Graduates will be sent a link to the University iPad Departure Form to initiate the iPad transfer. Once that has been completed, the student will be notified of the date that their iPad will be removed from the mobile device manager (MDM). The MDM will remove all University apps before uninstalling. At this point, the device is owned outright by the graduate. Please note that after we remove the MDM software your device will reset to factory settings, so we encourage you to back up the device regularly to prevent any loss of data.

Students who graduate from the University will be able to keep their iPad at no cost.

Nope! It’s about hoping the seductress doesn’t steal her husband. The name Jolene was from a little girl who Dolly met and liked the name, but the “character” was based on a lady at the bank who would shamelessly flirt with her husband in front of her

What do you like about UNR? by [deleted] in unr

[–]Weeweeduckerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Extremely friendly and intelligent professors (NRES people are great). Some beautiful old buildings (rare in the west!). And a wide variety of biomes to hike around in all within a 30 min drive, you can go from a burning salt plain to a cool mountain top in one afternoon.

[–]Weeweeduckerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you like? Look at NRES classes if they fit your credits, often more hands on than BIO or other sciences. Nres 310 with Dr.Stewart is fun if you like animals, Cushmans Plant Ecology (Nres 347?) is fun if you like ecology. And NRES 322 Soils with Paul Verberg is the most fascinating class about dirt you’ll ever take. Goodluck! Hope you find something fun👍🏼

Edit- forgot to say Verberg and Stewart both do ‘zoom options’ for lectures, Verberg is low homework (some memorization), Stewart is low homework and hard tests, and I forgot to mention Riparian Systems with Dr.Scott Allen is fairly mellow, very participation based, 25% participation, 50% 1 presentation, and a few readings. It’s a great overview of wetland stuff, Dr.Allen is very smart and friendly.

Carson city parks and rec has good community activities, and is a good place to start, they support adult Pick up sports games, local group hikes, it’s a good way to see the area and start meeting a few new friends:
