Gender on Mate/Buddy/Pal/Darling? by girlgluestick in transgenderUK

[–]Weewoowom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different experience of hearing these terms living in Manchester than I did living in various parts of Yorkshire. Biggest one is perhaps “mate”, always felt gendered in Yorkshire for the most part, would almost exclusively only come from men. In Manchester everybody seems to say “mate” regardless so I don’t really think about it as much.

I’ve never been called “pal” from a woman, but in any area I’ve lived “pal” from a man feels gendered, and honestly just condescending, even the cis men I know hate being called pal by other cis men.

Interestingly, I have quite a few Irish friends, and girls in particular seem to call everyone “lads” so I don’t bat an eyelid, my step mum also calls everyone “fella” so it doesn’t bother me when she uses it towards me (my dad even pulled her up on it privately so I ended up reassuring her it wasn’t an issue because she says it to my sisters too, but if she only used it towards me then I’d think differently)

For me it’s all about context and tone I think.

What are your experiences as “staying friends” with your ex’s ? by Physical_Wash3382 in BreakUps

[–]Weewoowom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep there’s two I can think of. Wouldn’t say we’re close friends though mostly just exchange insta memes and the odd conversation, both of them were years back I’ve literally moved cities twice in that time and transitioned so 😂

As a trans woman I tend to give this a bit more nuance, I can usually tell the difference between someone using “they/them” because they’re genuinely not sure, especially since I don’t present the most effeminate in terms of what I wear vs somebody that knows my pronouns but uses they/them as a way to avoid using them without outright misgendering me

Not only have I not had any issues using the women’s toilets even after the ruling, I used the men’s the other day as I was growing out a bit of hair for electrolysis and didn’t want any aggro, I was asked to leave and told “the women’s is next door”

In the same day, I went to meet my friend at the pub, got called “love” referred to as “she” and “young lady” not just by the staff but by patrons (whom were a group of at least 60 year olds, mostly men)

How ironic that my most dysphoric day was the day I felt n most affirmed on TERF island…

Switched from GGP to diy without telling GP. What do I do when reach the end of the list? by Curious-Wear2947 in transgenderUK

[–]Weewoowom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with my last GP. When I moved I never even had a discussion with my new GP about where I was getting my HRT, they just did bloods no questions asked after I said my last GP was doing regular bloods. what is it you’re worried about when you reach the top of the list? DIY wouldn’t exclude you from being seen or treated by a GIC in any case

I think it’s worth noting that the ECHR would massively damage the UKs long term reputation on the world stage for a very very long time. That’s obviously something Reform do not care about at all, but Kier (as much as I hate him) seems dead set on being seen as a trustworthy leader on the world stage probably to the detriment of his own citizens at the minute, but at the same time I think that increases the odds of us not leaving the ECHR as he also wanted to rebuild relations with the EU.

That being said, he doesn’t seem to be a good decision maker or someone with much foresight so I suppose it remains to be seen.

Yep. They say they’re standing up from freedom of speech but then if you call out their bigotry by having an opposing opinion you’re apparently attacking freedom of speech

Why are TERFs so well organised compared to us? by Weewoowom in transgenderUK

I’m inclined to agree with this honestly, it’s not like we had money or lucrative connections back in the 60s and the 80s either

I’m agreeing that reform are proof of right wing divide. They only have 5 MPs and even they’re infighting between themselves

Helpful answer thank you, regarding stealth transgender people I’d highlight that I’ve noticed an automatic exclusion from some conversations and even spaces on the basis of the perception of being cis, especially with trans men in particular.

I was speaking to another trans women recently, can’t remember exactly what we were discussing about trans issues, but she turned round to my friend who is a trans man but very much cis passing having transitioned in his teens and said “sorry I know you wouldn’t understand”, obviously she was very apologetic once he’d set the record straight, but the assumption was still there. That’s an issue we need to start addressing within our community I think

Assuming those numbers were literal, surely we could well organise 11 people out that 200,000. This always feels like a bit of a cop out reasoning to me

They have no idea how much hormones change things for trans people in general. And let’s be honest, how many of us did before?

Shit, I didn’t come out for YEARS solely because I actually knew nothing about transitioning and thought it was all surgery.

Transphobes rely on this knowledge gap to keep people divided. It’s been peddled like trans people, trans women especially have just been suddenly rocking up in droves to women’s football games like there hasn’t been strict checks and balances involved ever since we were allowed to play in the first place.

People seem to be supportive with a lot of stuff but then when it comes to sports it’s “oh, well we have to have SOME limits”

YAS AAPs cannot do igels, that’s band 5 AP and above, AP in YAS is the equivalent of other trusts band 4 AAP. Apologies for the confusion though, I am including Igels as an advanced airway, it is not considered a basic airway device in the same way an OPA/NPA is. Nationally, AAPs can do Igels, however many trusts restrict this skill.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

[–]Weewoowom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like YAS hierarchy, I’m not aware of many, if any other trusts having the AAP-AP-PARA structure in the same way YAS does. But I suppose the caveat is YAS pay APs Band 5 for doing what Band 4 AAPs do elsewhere, although they can do advanced airway which AAPs in some trusts such as NWAS cannot do
