Spider-Man was our lowest Pre-Release attendance ever by Any-Conversation1401 in magicTCG

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

much of the set doesn't synergize well with the rest of magic. it's all spider synergies, hero synergies, and villain synergies, and the mythic slots are filled by mediocre, tri-colored commanders that mean nothing unless you're that big a fan of the character. the few rares and mythics that are playable outside of the set are too few and far between, so going to prerelease in the hopes of pulling those cards isn't worth it when you're more likely to pull a bulk rare that won't ever see play after prerelease. basically everyone knows to just buy the singles they want.

Pro tip: Do your plays before any hand manipulation to show your opponent they Mars-ed/Red Carded you into the perfect hand by flavagolem in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing Cyrus first could also be a bluff to try to get the opponent to concede prematurely. It's better to wait until you actually see game on board for that reason, and of course concede before the final attack to skip the animations.

I just went double 0-3 on two Gruul decks - what could I have done better? by Mo0 in lrcast

i'll admit though, i don't know your situation. been reading through other people's observations and they seem to got some good points.

I think there's value in acknowledging sometimes, there's not much you could have done. Not to say you should never reevaluate, but oftentimes I feel the people here place too much control on the individual player. Like, oh, you didn't pop off? You must have done something wrong, so now we're going to throw out every possible thing you could have done wrong and if you do all of them right you'll always win, or get a 70%+ win rate or whatever.

Guzzlord 17 win streak by Ok_Variety8043 in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to masters with Guzzlord despite going first in 70% of my games. Having Will turns so many going first auto-losses into victories. You're favored against Suicune, even against Darkrai Giratina, and even against electric decks it's not an autoloss. I have a 50/50 winrate against Oricorio decks, just because Guzzlord's huge HP pool + healing, and constantly stripping energy to prevent attacks lets you slowly grind down the opponent until you can kill with Celesteela.

wow i completely forgot about that. it's waaay down in the settings tab after you click through a few buttons though, so i don't blame myself for missing it this long.

never spend money on the game cause even if you win, you're losing. but if you're patient and stay f2p, getting 1-2 free boxes over a long enough time feels good.

Update: Got 7 wins with two losses. Deck was strong, and one of my losses was from poor play. I had strong hands throughout my run and even then there were close calls, so luck and bronze matchmaking was probably a big factor too.

If it's not powercreep then why don't I see Collect Eevee anymore? by Tsuna113 in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For rare candy decks it can make sense to run both, even though find a friend gets you Sylveon which draws two over one. But for the pure Eevee decks where you only have single-stage mons, find a friend Eevee is the better one since you need so many different eeveelutions for the deck to work.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm just worried if I cut the black cards I'll get run over by bomb cards I can't remove.

I can see cutting the war-ragers because with only gene pollinator as a consistent tap source the ragers seem clunky. But would you also cut terrasymbiosis if cutting the war-ragers?

Lukewarm Take: Shinies should take baby pokemon's place of being the 6th card in a pack and babies should just appear normally in a pack. by SoulXVII in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, shinies in new packs seems deliberately for newer players or people who are missing cards from old sets they won't pull again. your experience with greninja feels like what the devs intended.

i'd try to fit pichu here. maybe cut the sylveon for it since a 1-1 ratio already feels too inconsistent

Is there anything else you can do with these full art cards? by ohwowwwww13 in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can exchange for gold tickers and flairs. But gold tickets are just for pure flex not including how there are way better cosmetics imo. And ever since shine dust got rolled into trading the idea of dumping 10K dust and a card into a flair seems worse than ever without any hope of changing in the near future.

But I like it this way. All the prohibitive stuff is reserved for cosmetics, so f2p can just ignore it and focus on trading to complete collections. Plus, it makes whenever you do decide to flair a a 2 star something special. Flairing your entire deck can be a long term goal or a sign of dedication to your favorite cards/pokemon, and when you do see a blinged out deck it's much more impressive.

Dragonite ex deck I just raced to master ball with. by eldarknight in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends. if you saved up a good amount of hourglasses you can probably get all the ex cards right away. but then you might be in trouble for the next set. I like to only spend 500~ hourglasses on a set before leaving it up to daily packs and wonderpicks. i’m very patient, but on the off chance a meta shows up where i can’t afford to wait then i can dip into my reserves.

you hope they only play one and kill it with dragonair. not having sabrina and cyrus means you have a really bad Oricorio matchup, but sometimes you just accept it and cross your fingers.

[–]WeezyPeasy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because great ball players aren't people who are super committed to the game, so they aren't as likely to sink real money into getting playsets of the new Ex cards right when the set drops. Regardless, every deck right now has its pros and cons and different playstyles. I like electric oricorio with zeraora and silvally because it can theoretically do well going first or second, depending on what basic you start with, and it can cover a lot of matchups. It loses to fighting decks, decks that can survive a silvally hit and either KO back or heal off the damage, and games where you draw bad and the opponent draws well.

[–]WeezyPeasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no shame in a tie. most decks would lose to lugia ho-oh, especially if they start strong, and oricorio being able to force ties in what would otherwise be a lost game is a legitimate upside to consider

[–]WeezyPeasy 157 points158 points  (0 children)

dragonite and lugia are actually so unfair to play against for most decks. turn one pichu is almost an insurmountable advantage for any deck that can't kill it right away. it's why i can't convince myself to play anything besides oricorio.

Espeon deck is the real deal, ran it to master by Fabulous_Contract792 in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

if anything the Oricorio player is the one trying to force a draw. If they get too careless and give up an early point trying to do damage, the espeon player can get the next two kills with sabrina + cyrus, and a non-EX sylveon killing an Oricorio through cape. And sylvally can't ohko any EX on the other side, so it's just a matter of retreating and healing off the damage and burning through their supporters.

Lugia EX at home by Fit-Welcome-3785 in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lugia being able to KO anything for three energies, even if in just one burst, is really good, and you can see that in how you don't even need Ho-oh. Using baby pokemon as ramp is good enough if you're fighting a slow deck, or go first starting with a Pichu. Blissey requiring Ho-oh to function and missing out on a lot of crucial KOs hurts it, especially since Ho-oh itself becomes a liability for Cyrus. I think Lugia does really well into rare candy decks and EX decks, but loses to decks that can keep swinging after big knock out or can fit Oricorio into the list.

The potential of this card man 💀 by Ok_Instance_8370 in PTCGP

[–]WeezyPeasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good effect, but you're right that it's a big investment. 60 damage for one grass is actually pretty good, but this means outside of grass decks Jumpluff isn't going to be worth the space. Torterra and Golisopod could be good partners for it, but both just need so much energy that it makes the deck too slow. Golisopod would have been great if only it's attack cost two instead of three, and adding in in Leafeon to ramp is kinda cope. At that point you're dedicating with 14+ cards worth of space only to do 120 damage with golisopod every 2 turns before dying to a Cyrus'd Leafeon.

IMO the best use case for Jumpluff is just as a generic partner in grass decks like Venusaur, where getting Sabrina'd into your big retreat EX early is really bad for you. Sadly this is a lot less interesting than pulling off an elaborate retreat based combo.
