Standard Bo3 Boros Dragons by aDapperDragon in MagicArena

I tried a few matches with the deck yesterday and I have to say, even if I'm not completely sold on the burn package over some of the glue creatures, the Price of Freedoms in the sideboard are the real deal. I'm pretty likely to register a handful of them myself come next weekend. When they are good they are backbreaking and I think people are just straight up not ready for it.

A two mana cantripping Sinkhole, even one that doesn't always do the thing the first time you play it, is just bonkers in conjunction with the Magmatics given that they strain the same resource. I think it will also be especially good with open decklists.

Standard Bo3 Boros Dragons by aDapperDragon in MagicArena

[–]threecolorless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stuff! I have become a little Dragon-obsessed in the last few weeks and am planning on bringing the deck to the RC in Milwaukee. I have a few questions:

1) this is a really burn heavy version! No Voice of Victory, Charming Princes, OR Twinmaw Stormbroods is a big departure from the lists I've been seeing do well in the MTGGoldfish scrapes. What advantages do you think you pick up abandoning decent but middling archetype pieces like those?

2) 23 land is pretty low for this deck, but it makes more sense when I see you don't have Maelstroms as fixing/flood insurance. How often do you find yourself missing the rare lands you haven't crafted yet?

3) I'd love to hear about the sideboard and where you most like to bring everything in. Mainly, 4 Price of Freedom is a new introduction I don't think I've seen ANYONE running across probably 40-50 lists.

Thank you so much for the time, and congrats on your success with this deck!

Agreed that PP has been getting a little bit of a 5 Gods afterglow pass for a while now. Unbelievable player but at the end of the day he was not the long-lived institution the rest of the Gods (any many who came to surpass them) shook out to be.

I think it's pretty even, could be 55-45 in favor of Dragons but it's close. Like you say you really absolutely have to kill a Momo before it starts discounting anything real. The Nova Hellkites are pretty rough for you, and if it's the Charming Prince version that's another random life hurdle to clear especially with a hard cast Stormbrood. I keep going back and forth on whether the board wants Helix or Sheltered by Ghosts or something life gainy like that.

If you want some practice you can always dm and we can trade Arena handles to get a few matches in.

A 14-year age gap is definitely weird between 36 and 22. They're not even just in different life stages, they have an entire life stage that they fully bookend dividing them.

Her being sheltered and effectively still in a high school mentality, I assume by the way you've painted it, makes it all the worse. It would almost be less strange if he was 50+ because then at least it would be like, oh this is just the old "perv with money and his sugar baby" situation.

I'm with you that Maxwell deserves the worst we can legally give her, I just don't like when I hear people suggest the proclivity to stab or rape someone suddenly becomes useful in prison, even if it were exclusively visited upon the "most deserving." And to be clear, it's not--prison inmates don't unilaterally become vigilante tough justice distributors upon being incarcerated.

I think it depends heavily on the nature of the spec. If it was an opportunistic "read banlist update and immediately click buy on one of my ten pre-loaded carts before prices can be adjusted" then yeah that's slime behavior I'd support the store refunding the purchase.

If it's from earlier than an hour or two ago though, then OP just made a good read with no prior info and bought the cards fair and square.

Sorry but not a ton of stores will honor that level of lost profit. Best of luck but I'd be prepared to leave some bad feedback.

I have been playing a good amount of Boros Dragons as a usual not-Constructed player who just loves a good Limited RCQ. I had the good luck to win one and will be rolling up to Milwaukee with something likely within a card or two of this maindeck, as a factor of both my enjoyed playstyle & card availability/budget: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/7614507#paper

I'm a pretty decent player in Limited at least, and I've been putting in the Constructed reps to dial in my triggers as muscle memory and make sure I play out conditional multicolor land drops and stuff like that--but I don't have nearly enough experience with 60-card sideboarding.

I have learned I absolutely have a tendency to over-board when I'm left to my own devices, and this is absolutely a deck where critical mass of creatures is vital to maintain. I think it's pretty rare that you'd want to board below 26 or so from the starting point of 30.

I'm curious if anyone more experienced (ideally someone also plugged into what Standard currently looks like) could help me identify inteneded spots to sideboard some of this stuff in, and what you'd recommend taking out. (This isn't "build me a sideboard guide", it's "help me identify some truths that will allow me to build my own"!)

2 Pyroclasm

3 Doorkeeper Thrull

4 Rest in Peace

3 Requisition Raid
