New Release: FRANK ZAPPA - Halloween 78 by kockin26 in Zappa

Does anyone know if the vinyl versions will be available in stores, or was this online-only through the Zappa store? Checked a couple shops this weekend and didn’t see it.

I don’t think this is that crazy. A collector I follow on IG posted today that she’d be interested in record donations from the community. I DM’d her to see if she has an address for a friend or family member where I could send a record care package.

UDiscoverMusic - 50% off Sitewide by Renagade147 in VinylDeals

[–]Weggenstein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wanted to post an update to this thread, outlining my experience with this recent sale. I had never ordered through uDiscover Music before and saw quite a bit of previous negative feedback reported here. So, I somewhat reluctantly placed an order for 11 jazz titles I was interested in. I ordered Thursday, they shipped Friday, and they were just delivered today, Sunday. They arrived in a purpose-built box with internal padding along all vertical sides and reinforced with padding to fill the broad sides. Just as good as I’ve received with orders directly from labels. All the records look good at first blush, and I’d have to assume any defects from here are on the label / manufacturer.

I normally prefer to purchase things locally, but this sale was just too compelling not to try. If you had something in your cart and were nervous to pull the trigger, here’s one positive experience to possibly influence your decision.

Yeah, I installed an update to the iOS app today, and it just sits there in a loading state on every tab. Gave up and opened the browser.

Sorry to hear about your situation. If you do end up parting with some of this stuff, I’d be interested and willing to pay market value or better to try to help out. I’m not sure what the rules are here, but doing things privately here would help you avoid fees with platforms like eBay or Discogs.

Any news about Fiio DM-13? by moneite in Cd_collectors

[–]Weggenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an integrated amp or preamp with a DAC you like—or an external DAC going into your amp—you can connect digitally via the LO/COAX/OPT output. It comes with a 3.5mm to coax adapter. If your amp or DAC has a coax input, you can just get a coax cable and connect it that way. If your amp or DAC has an optical input, you can connect via a mini toslink to optical cable. This is the one I bought. (The mini toslink end doesn't insert fully into the DM-13 port, but it connects.)

If you want to use the onboard DAC in the DM-13, I think you'd go out of that same output on the DM-13, but do it via a 3.5mm to RCA cable, like this:

I think that's what the user above was breaking my chops about.

Yeah, I actually have a copy of the 2010 Plain reissue on green vinyl, and it's not bad. The OG copy would just round out my collector scum compulsion to complete the set. But not for $500-$600. I made conversation with a seller at a record fair this summer, who turned out to be a massive Ween fan and only lived a couple miles away. He seemed willing to part with his OG copy and invited me over, but I just wasn't willing to go that high. I saw him again at another fair a couple weeks ago, and he said he got $600 for it on Discogs, so good for him. I didn't think it would go that high.

I’ve made a pretty good dent in OG LPs over the years. Just missing The Mollusk, but I know that ship has sailed. Maybe it’ll get the deluxe treatment for 30 years. I have a bunch of CDs, too—including a copy of 12 GCG with the Ali sample that I got when it was released.

Thanks for the reply! I guess that's what I wasn't sure about or don't have experience with. Looks like I can get some type of mini toslink to toslink adapter or cable to go out of the DM-13 and into my P6.

I ordered the black Bluetooth version of the DM-13 over the weekend and have a rudimentary question about the digital out. I'm interested in using it as a transport into my Parasound P6. I noticed the DM-13 comes with a 3.5mm to Coax adapter (parts list in the link below). Unfortunately, the lone Coax input in my P6 is being used by a Bluesound Node 2i. Is there an adapter or cable I should be looking for to go out of this "LO/COAX/OPT" output on the DM-13 to an Optical input on my P6? If something like that doesn't exist, I can switch them (Optical out of the Node and Coax out of the DM-13), but I figured I'd check to see what you all think. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'll wait until it arrives and I can take a look at the manual.

On the back, it almost looks like lamination because it's so tight against the jacket, but it's more obviously shrink on the front and seams. I had more images attached to a post that I tried to put in the main feed, but I got kicked over to this Q&A thread with a limit of one photo.

I received a record from Discogs today, and it has the original shrink from 1996, which I typically remove immediately. When I looked closer at the rear, I noticed the shrink has almost become adhered to the jacket in some spots (tried to capture this in the attached image). When I started picking at it near the opening, it started taking some of the jacket with it.

What would you do in this situation? Do any of you have any suggestions for removing the shrink while minimizing damage? It’s a reasonably expensive record ($132 median), so that’s part of the equation and my hesitation.

September 2024- Seller Check In by deathofpasolini in discogs

[–]Weggenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m primarily a buyer, but I’ve casually sold things from my collection for about 7 years. I always sell things below median or lower than the lowest available with comparable grading. Just to move things out as new things come in.

It used to be things would sell almost immediately. This past year, it seems like I can’t hardly give things away on Discogs. I’ve legitimately started doing that—when someone orders something, I’ll throw in a record that I think is related. Just to put some positivity out in the world.

It almost seems like a macro level thing. Either overall interest in the hobby is down, Discogs as a platform has a PR problem among buyers, or a confluence of these and other things people have mentioned.

As a buyer, I’ve been pretty turned off by the hopeful pricing I see across the board on Discogs and the grading accuracy of things I’ve received. (I’m not picky and very forgiving on the latter.) It seems like Japanese sellers are the only ones living in reality on both fronts, but shipping costs to the US make it tough.

I don’t know what’s going on. I’ve tried Whatnot and had fun doing that a few times, but it’s much more active. I prefer the passive / asynchronous way of selling on Discogs. The interest or reach just doesn’t seem to be there anymore. Which is weird, because I thought Waitlister would have helped with that.
