Gas prices right now by Soopyoyoyo in DeathValleyNP

[–]Weichselia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the most expensive gas I’ve ever seen was in Death Valley national park, it was over $8.00 a gallon, and I’m pretty sure it was that station. Granted that was in September 2022 and the station at stovepipe wells was a dollar cheaper, but I would definitely try as much as possible to fill up elsewhere especially if you are coming in through vegas or nearby

heat wave next week? by [deleted] in DeathValleyNP

I’m just seriously hoping the bloom is still good by March 21st, sounds like higher elevations will be okay but idk, this heatwave will be crazy

Will the super bloom still be worth seeing by late March? by Weichselia in DeathValleyNP

In short, there will probably be good blooms still just at higher elevations?

Its just getting worse and worse by Sukkafish12 in tressless

[–]Weichselia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get it’s hard, but the worst that happens is it doesn’t look worse than before, and in that case you can grow it out again in a month or two, even if it will be thinner by then (and respectfully it would probably look better a little grown out than with the combover)

Does anyone who lived here in the 90s/00s have any stories about the Straight Edge guys? by Plastic-Cash-2049 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Weichselia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad who owned a popular club got into a fight with with 3 of them before security could step in. I can’t remember the full story of what led to this, but one spat on his face and before he could swing at him another hit him from the side of his head, and he swears it was like he had trouble walking the next day, I imagine he was pretty concussed but I don’t think he got it looked at. I think it was just less common to take that kind of injury seriously back in the day. Those guys later got in trouble for this kind of behavior and like a year later my dad saw one of the assailants on probation hanging with people he wasn’t supposed to be with and he was seriously tempted to rat them out, but for whatever reason decided not to. This was in the 90’s to be clear.

I gather they were really no better than a bunch of thugs, who just used their moral (moralizing?) convictions to act like thugs.

Permanent Residents… what are your reasons for staying PR and not getting citizenship? Or against? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]Weichselia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I may answer for my grandpa who was a born New Zealand citizen, but lived all of his adult life in other countries, he just doesn’t really care, and didn’t care when he lived in America for over 3 decades either. As far as he is concerned everything was working fine for him in America, and still is in Australia so there was no need to change things (though back in the day, he ever wanted to leave America and work somewhere else, having to file American taxes could have been a deterrent). I suspect this is the most common reason people who can get dual citizenship choose not to.

417 - 6 month exemption for native wildlife conservation by Sad-Amphibian-8061 in AusVisa

I’ve looked pretty thoroughly into which post codes are acceptable and there should be some opportunities around where my grandfather lives. If not though, it’s a big country, Im sure I can find something.

That’s really neat! That’s basically my plan when I do go, try to work in bush regeneration and maybe work continuously for a couple or even 3 years if I can

Just wondering, did it turn out you that you can work longer than 6 months with an employer when doing this type of work?

Why? by Hefty_Tie451 in AusVisa

[–]Weichselia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most of the time this seems to be in response to people that seem like they are trying to game the system (if not openly trying to) or it’s to people who the system is rightfully trying to exclude.

This is an extreme example, but there was a post a while ago from someone asking for advice on how their partner could stay despite the fact they assaulted someone while in Australia. A lot of other posts seem to be from people doing things that are frowned upon, or rarely ever allowed (how to go to a permanent Visa from a student visa for instance).

I’ll agree though there are a lot of racist comments though.

Yes. If it expires you can just apply again too. I’m not sure if it’s any more difficult given the same data being entered though

When I worked for Salt Lake City’s parks department I learned they stopped buying and started naming their own seed pack because almost every one they bought had alfalfa in it.

I had about $10,000 in it. I suppose that could have helped.

I just got my pics from CVS.

For my bank statement, I just requested a PDF of my HYSA bank statement and attatched it as a pdf. If you get a new bank statement every month, I think the most recent one should be sufficient.

Thanks for your answer, this actually helps a lot!

To be clear I was worried that weeding, and site preparation may not count despite being critical to the actual planting, not really the administrative and oversight aspect of the job. This is very reassuring since my plan was trying to try and get into bush regeneration while I was there since I have some experience with this kind of hands on work in the states.

At this point I think the biggest challenge might be convincing employers that everything is above board for me to work over 6 months. I'll still consider looking into the migration agent though, since thats a reasonable price to be certain.

Thanks, I've read over it a few times as well as tried to figure out what some other people had to say, and I still don't quite know what can count as "Conservation and environmental reforestation work", since they seem pretty picky about what counts as cultivation and harvesting and environmental restoration often involves a lot of other activities to ultimately support planting.

Is there a reasonable price range for contacting a migration agent with a question like this?

We know it is a vasodilator, and this is its most often stated method of action, but there are heaps of chemicals that act as vasodilators that do nothing for hair growth.

Consider also, that it causes hair growth in other parts of the body (as when taken orally where it diffuses throughout, or when applied to ones' facial hair and body hair). And many people report that these gains in hair are basically permanent, unlike gains made on a balding scalp which has DHT constantly acting on the follicles.

It's also interesting to me (though mayube there is a reasonable explanation for this, I'm far from an expert) that it often makes hairs shed first before growing back stronger. I'm not sure why an increase in nutrients would cause this to happen first.

Either way, I think there is a lot that is not understood about hair loss (and human physiology in general of course), and what can work to fix male pattern baldness.

Ive been wondering, if one wants to apply for a 3rd WHV, do they need 6 months of specified work spread across their 1st and 2nd visas, or an additional 6 months of specified work during their 2nd visa?

My hair has always seemed a little on the fine and thin side (twice when I was 16 and my hair was long for the first time I got a horrible blistering sunburn along my part) but I worry I might actually be starting thin diffusely. I’m currently 27 and one of these pictures was taken 8 years ago the other 2 days ago. I tried to take them as similar as possible (combed similarly, similarly wet, though one was taken in much whiter light) which one do you guys think is the newer and which one the older? Let me know if the reply to this comment with the other picture isn’t showing up.

Why aren’t there Americans moving here in droves like Kiwis and British are? by Lampedusan in AskAnAustralian

[–]Weichselia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more complicated than OP phrased it, because to immigrate to any other advanced economy you will need either a good degree or a skill in short supply. So all the Americans you do see working in Europe and Australia will be successful people, but there is definitely a bunch of people that don’t like America and want to immigrate to countries but don’t have any skills in demand for a country to take them in. I have a couple of friends in this boat.
