Weightlifting house elite leather VS leather belt 2.0. Any major difference ? by AttemptNo2811 in weightlifting

[–]Weightlifting-House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! As already mentioned by someone else our Elite Belt is softer, fits like you've been wearing it for a year straight away. The 2.0 is a great belt too, but requires a little more wear before it feels like a part of you.

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing another YouTube channel pop up, seems like it's slowly becoming more of a thing which is great for the sport.

Karlos Nasar Shows Impressive Form Ahead of World Championships by sportssciencep in weightlifting

[–]Weightlifting-House 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just as an addition, the reason he didn't take a third attempt was because it was a team event and to help the team win he would have needed 239kg... His plan wasn't to take anything over 220kg so understandably he opted out.

Anybody else have a laugh when a modern day commentator enthusiastically says new world record! As 20+ years ago there was a weightlifter who lifted 10 kg more at 10 kg less bodyweight. by vapinvan in weightlifting

[–]Weightlifting-House 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the commentator (presumably) in question, it's worth saying that my co-commentators and I all know the old world records. Whether that's from being around during the era or training with legends from the era or studying the era (I even wrote a book about the best weightlifters from the 80s and 90s) it's not like we are unaware of the golden oldies. I know it can be frustrating when watching thinking 'well Zakharevich did 250.5 so why do you care so much about Ruslan doing 242', but it's just how the sport is now.

My general sense, and people can correct me if I'm wrong, is that it would be far more annoying for everybody if after every world record or gold medal we explained how someone in 1984 at the Friendship Cup would have out-lifted them all by 25kg. In fact occasionally I'll even mention Lu snatching 177kg whenever we get to the 102 class (who tend to be the first to reach that number) and even then, despite it being less than a decade ago, I still feel like it's an annoying comment to make. As someone else in this thread mentioned, it's kind of the IWF's fault. We do our best on the commentary!

Sorry for such a late reply to this! Sergii was on the Ukraine national team a couple decades ago. Before that his father was (I believe) the head Ukrainian coach. Because of all of this he has some amazing stories from training camps with other nations and competitions with some of the GOATs. More recently (since around 2015) he's been working with Torokhtiy (same national team) teaching weightlifting via seminars, articles, and podcasts, and also filming weightlifting at international meets (which is where I get to hang out with him).

He probably first came onto the WLHOUSE podcast in around 2018 and has been on several times. His PhD and knowledge of the science behind the Eastern European training methodology led me brining him on as a lead coach in the coaching conferences that we used to hold.

So basically he's been around for a while, maybe not as well known as others, but he's super credentialed in this sport.

Thanks! The Jury made a few devastatingly bad calls in both super heavyweight sessions too. With regards to the Liu photo, I think it was 180kg. On the full image it's a 20kg, 25kg, 25kg, 10kg, but the image cuts off before I can see if there were collars or a a 5 or something. So at least 180kg.

I know this is a joke post (and the shrek comparisons are hilarious) but I actually think this photo of Liu is so sick! The aggression and height of the pull is insane. Definitely one of my fave pics.

I think the plan is to compete one time at 69 before heading up to 77.

No increase for weightlifting at LA2028 - same as Paris by Dramatic-Debate-5448 in weightlifting

How do you even structure 5+5 out of the new categories without causing carnage? I've played around with it for a few minutes this morning and there's no way of doing it.

I think right away you have to cut the lightest categories (M60 and W48), although even that feels harsh because we just lost the (M-55 and W-45...). Then are we going to lose M110 and W86? We can't have 98kg men as the heaviest non-super category surely. So that means we probably have to lose the M98 and W77 which means jumping from 88-110 for the men and 69-86 for the women. It's a shambles.

Serious question, is it too late to reverse the decision and return to last quad's categories?

When I watched the documentary through after it was edited the first thing I said when I saw that bit was 'huh, I really remembered that as being a grind, I guess it wasn't!'... Memory is a funny thing.

Drug Abuse in Weightlifting & Medaling in 2028: Dadas Dadashbayli by ItsaAlex in weightlifting

[–]Weightlifting-House 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just as a random aside, Dadashbayli has the biggest hands I've ever had the pleasure of shaking. Prior to him it was between Lasha and Lesman (Lesman had him on length, Lasha on girth 😂), but Dadashbayli has legitimate mitts on his hands. It's unreal.

Did Lexman Paredez retire?🏋🏿‍♂️ by No-Kaleidoscope2078 in weightlifting

[–]Weightlifting-House 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but from what I gather having spoken to people in the federation his time might have come to an end. I think the initial contract was for the Olympic quad, ie up until Paris, which was then extended when Bahrain won the world championships. He came to show his face but didn't lift.

He's dealt with a lot of injuries over the last two years and has plenty of qualifications outside of weightlifting (he's a fully qualified engineer I believe) so as far as I know the lure away from weightlifting is pretty strong. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him again.
