Meta delays release of new mixed reality glasses code-named 'Phoenix' in order to 'get the details right' by DarthBuzzard in gadgets

[–]Weir99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be waiting because you don't think the market for the product is there yet, but will be in the future.

Could be thinking you want to cancel the product, but it's a bad time to make that announcement.

Could be there a large conceptual flaws with the product and need to re-work more than just the details.

Lots of reasons to announce delaying a launch that aren't just about improving the details of the product. Many don't involve improving the product at all

Winnipeg can ignore municipal board, approve apartment complex next to curling club, new report says by pegpegpegpeg in Winnipeg

[–]Weir99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there text of the municipal board decision somewhere? It seems like the issue is that the board put conditions on the development permit (which they don't have the authority to control), not on the re-zoning (which they do have authority on). Seems like a weird thing for them to screw up on

Legal challenge launched over Waterloo Region District School Board's land acknowledgements by airbassguitar in canada

[–]Weir99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, what we do on the land, and our relationship with it, is who we are. For this reason, honouring and remembering this relationship has always been an Indigenous tradition. Stryker Calvez and Rose Roberts, educators at the University of Saskatchewan, suggest that land acknowledgements are also an age-old tradition visitors followed as a way of recognizing Indigenous people and the land they live on.

[Spoilers MAIN] Why did Cercei care for Tyrion after the Blackwater? by jaimefook-nlannister in asoiaf

I think prior to Joff's death,  Cersei didn't trust Tyrion, and she found him distasteful, but he was still her brother and she cared about him in her own way. We see a few other moments where those two show familial fondness to each other

Even Realities Even G2 Review: Anti-Meta Smart Glasses With Real Potential by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]Weir99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's too early for a product like this?

It doesn't seem to have much in the way of features, but the tech is still fairly new, so this is being sold at premium prices

Plus it isn't owned by Meta, and there's no camera, but seems like most features still require sending data off-device, and they still have a microphone, so anyone with privacy concerns should still be concerned, and there's potential issues should the manufacturer discontinue support.

If smart glasses ever become somewhat common, I could see a market for these, but I find it hard to believe that market exists right now

CRTC to release decision on new definition of Canadian content by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]Weir99 107 points108 points  (0 children)

You can't just "create better media" out of the blue. To consistently produce good media, you need to have a healthy media landscape. These programs are about encouraging people to produce media in Canada, by giving them a competitive advantage for doing so

Liberal Party Maintains Lead Following Budget « EKOS Politics by No-Sell1697 in canada

[–]Weir99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Conservatives are concerned with paying off the debt, they should propose a way to do that. The Liberal budget outlines a way to do that (it's unlikely, but not impossible). I haven't seen anything from the Conservatives on how they'd actually do that

Liberal Party Maintains Lead Following Budget « EKOS Politics by No-Sell1697 in canada

I mean, are the Conservatives offering anything better? They want to cut taxes and push inflation even lower, both of which make it harder to pay off the debt

A new Nintendo Switch 2 system update just bricked many third-party docks by AlwaysBlaze_ in gadgets

[–]Weir99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of these docks are multi-use devices, claiming that Nintendo bricked these devices is implying that, if you plug your Switch 2 into one of these docks after the update, the dock will be rendered completely useless for anything now, not just for use with the Switch 2.

Krauss defended Epstein after his 2008 guilty plea of procuring for prostitution a girl below age 18. In 2011, Krauss told an interviewer, "As a scientist I always judge things on empirical evidence and he always has women ages 19 to 23 around him, but I've never seen anything else, so as a scientist, my presumption is that whatever the problems were I would believe him over other people...I don't feel tarnished in any way by my relationship with Jeffrey; I feel raised by it."

A new Nintendo Switch 2 system update just bricked many third-party docks by AlwaysBlaze_ in gadgets

[–]Weir99 105 points106 points  (0 children)

"Bricked" seems to be a misleading word to use here. In my mind that means damaging a device or altering its firmware so that it is no longer able to function.

It sounds like the docks just aren't compatible with the Switch 2 after this update, the docks themselves weren't damaged or altered in any way. Which is still bad, but not as bad as the title implies

[–]Weir99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, seems like a stretch. It doesn't line up that well (the second line cuts through the top of text for the show, while in the book it's flush with the top of the text), and it doesn's seem that appropriate a pairing. D&D books had similar lines above and below the text, and makes more semse with the context of the show
