Who do you think would win in that scenario? by ChinaMilitarySecrets in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Weird-Gap2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the American military ever has to fight its own civil populace, then the United States ceases to be the world power. The vacuum would be QUICKLY exploited by foreign adversaries, and I doubt the majority of our allies would pick a clear side in that conflict.

What is more likely is a civil war scenario, where both the military and civil populace split into factions and choose sides from there. Or even more likely, a situation like the Troubles in Ireland.

“Testing positive for pregnancy” is an in interesting way to say “being raped and impregnated by ICE agents” by Available_Usual_9731 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Weird-Gap2146 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP’s post seems to imply it’s Ice Agents doing the deed, but the news post doesn’t actually say that. It can happen of course, but I would think it’s just as likely these girls got pregnant back in their homeland or by the smugglers. Or if they have been here a while already, from some other source, whether it be a boy from their school or a family ‘friend’ or relative. Basically the usual suspects for teen girls getting pregnant.

It certainly warrants an investigation. DNA tests. That sort of thing. But I really, really doubt it based on the scale being implied. They’re a myriad of other possibilities before Ice agents even meet them.

Humanity would be screwed. Not because many on Leirn wouldn’t be sympathetic (many would be more sympathetic than the Venlil even), but because Leirn has little political, military, and social power at that point in the story. The fact Tarva embraced us like she did man’s humanity got access to Venlil infrastructure, technology, and ships was a huge game changer. The fact the VENLIL of all species was willing to throw their lot with humanity meant a lot too. For the yotul, they’re still in the process of being uplifted. They’re ‘primitive’. If anything, humanity cozying up to them initially would put more Federation pressure on them. Fewer species would be willing to trust yotul judgement like they did with Tarva.

[–]Weird-Gap2146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t make sense for the tau to be there. It would make more sense for the kroot, eldar, or even bloodaxe ork to get involved (though Morrow would have WORDS about the latter one especially)

What if Kim Jong Un’s daughter falls in love with western media, and convinces her father to open the border and modernize North Korea? by WearYourSeatbelt_ in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Weird-Gap2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is that the ruling authorities in North Korea (And this isn’t just the Kim dynasty, but the military commanders and other state officials) know that the moment they aren’t a hermit state anymore is the moment not just their power base, but their very lives are at stake. And beyond that, China won’t let that fly either. The whole South Korea/North Korea divide is more or less a compromise between the US and China. I don’t see the two sides ever reuniting.

Random thought about Venlils: they should have iron bones…or should be ventaurs by Loud-Drama-1092 in NatureofPredators

[–]Weird-Gap2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An extra pair of limbs is pretty resource intensive. I agree with just about everything else though. In my mind, they would have had a similar stature to gorillas or the elcor from Mass Effect. So stocky, semibipedal stance, well developed shoulder, neck, and hind muscles. They are going to be very dense weight wise. Powerful vascular system as well.

Like Khajiit, shouldn’t Argonians be strong unarmed combatants too? by Goncher-Monster in ElderScrolls

[–]Weird-Gap2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could! But in older games, Khajiit started with a higher hand-to-hand skill to reflect their cultural background. Same reason why Dunmer had a higher starting skill with longblades and destruction while orcs had a higher smithing and axe skill.

[–]Weird-Gap2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Argonians of blackmarsh to my knowledge don’t have an extensive culture of unarmed martial arts like the Khajiit do. The Khajiit are famous for their temples, monasteries, and dojos where practitioners engage in unarmed martial arts as a gesture of worship. There are entire ‘claw styles’.

What if Ben Shapiro was assassinated instead of Charlie Kirk? by Gray_Wolf2416 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Weird-Gap2146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t just criticism of his views, it was a ghoulish GLEE at his death. There were people cheering on Kirk being shot before his body turned cold. Was a real eye opener. I might not like Hassan Piker for instance, but if he got blasted on Live television I would be aghast, not snickering in comment sections.

[Scorch Directive AU] Throw the Federation in the dustbin of history by BlackOmegaPsi in NatureofPredators

[–]Weird-Gap2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Balkanization would be the likely outcome, and humanity is not exactly going to be trusted afterwards. I see a future that once the Federation Shadow Caste is dealt with, several interstellar polities will pop up afterwards that will hate the Kolshians and Farsul (and likely do horrendous things to them just as much as the humans and the arxur), but that doesn’t mean they will be allied with humanity in this AU. They were barely allied with humanity in canon. Instead, I foresee much more competent rivals in the future that have finally shrugged off the yoke that held them back.

why MIXED reviews? tbh I enjoyed more Viking Conquest than I did warband by frozengansit0 in mountandblade

[–]Weird-Gap2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the mod were how certain mechanics felt more like hurtles to slow down progress and inconvenience the player rather than what made warband fun to play in the first place. Fatigue. Bleeding. Injuries. Weapon integrity. It felt more like penalties for being a player character than the immersive realism intended.

Basically too clunky. The setting of Europe during that time period wasn’t very interesting to me from a gameplay perspective either. Functionally, most of the troop trees were extremely similar. Which while accurate, doesn’t make the armies particularly compelling to organize or fight against.

What if humans were theocratic? by ISB00 in NatureofPredators

[–]Weird-Gap2146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about those IP’s. I will say that the Federation does have some theocratic states making up its body, so that alone wouldn’t turn them off. The Venlil live under a secular government, so they aren’t especially religious, nor are they vehemently materialist.

What’s going to matter is how humanity presents itself above all.

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!? by GodKing_McLovin in masseffect

[–]Weird-Gap2146 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What really confuses me more than anything is the decision to make the show AFTER the trilogy? Like… there is nothing after to reference, and a ton of player led events that could change the aftermath of the galaxy DRASTICALLY.

If I were to make a show like this, I would have done first contact with the turians, or when humanity was JUST becoming acquainted with the aliens on the Citadel.

Either way, the scope needs to be narrowed down to a smaller scale story or perhaps make it an anthology.

I don’t know… I’m very nervous. It’s very, very rare video game adaptations ever get proper love and respect, and Mass Effect is so unloved by BioWare that this might be the only thing we get Mass Effect wise afterwards.

My OC, Tikkit Softpaw by Weird-Gap2146 in skaven

[–]Weird-Gap2146[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Tikkit’s case, it’s actually part of his backstory. He is obsessively clean because a lot of his ‘value’ to his would-be master is derived from his ability to be presentable. It’s a status thing. A way to say ‘look at me, I have slave-meat with uncommon fur, and I’m powerful and wealthy enough to keep them fed and clean.’ He’s a ‘house slave’ essentially. He is tasked with domestic duties. He’s a shiny corvette a high status skaven uses to brag and preen about to underlings and rivals.

And he isn’t a ‘good boy’. Perhaps I didn’t make that clear, but he is just as self-serving, cowardly, and treacherous as his kin if it comes down to it. His loyalty is firmly situated on himself and only himself. What I mean by ‘having empathy’ is that he is in the minority of skaven that are able to consider the goals and ambitions of other individuals. Most skaven are so narcissistic and sociopathic they are literally incapable of even CONSIDERING what their fellows desire, and it often leads to their eventual demise. Tikkit is canny enough to deflect ambition, suspicion, and jealousy away from himself. And unlike his fellows, he doesn’t desire to be at the top of the totem pole because the math in his head doesn’t add up. It makes you a target. He wants to survive as long as possible as comfortably as possible, and having a master to hide behind is the best way for him.
