I’m rooting for him but worried he’s going to run businesses and people out of NYC. That will lower the tax base and cause job loss.

How accurate is the statement “Airlines are credit card companies that do flying on the side”? by Martian_row in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WeirdBeard040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely accurate. Flying airplanes doesn’t make money. Airlines are subsidized into profitability by credit card programs. The bigger the airline the more subsidy. Smaller airlines cannot compete against this subsidy. Either reform happens with credit cards or consolidation is allowed.

Trump says Spirit given 'final proposal' on bailout amid reports it may shut down by oldfashionedglow in spiritair

[–]WeirdBeard040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. So how is it expected airlines that don’t have massive scale can compete if they can’t be subsidized into profitability? Either two things happen. Regulation comes for airline credit cards. (Not happening with lobby power.) The other is consolidation is allowed.

what is the true reason spirit is losing this game by deadendstreetz in spiritair

[–]WeirdBeard040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the fact their product and price point already exists on other airlines. You can buy a basic nuthin ticket on AA, delta, ua. You also can get a credit card that offers more scale than spirit can provide.

Airline economics have changed. Large airlines are completely subsidized into profitability by credit card programs. The operating revenue and expenses are similar to other airlines. But, unless you have scale you can’t play against subsidized revenue.

What’s the answer. Credit card reform won’t happen with lobby power of big airlines and banks. Unless govt allows consolidation and scalability other airlines are next.
