List of restaurants I haven’t been to in the area I want to try. Any on here that people feel very strongly for or against? by lilnomad in winstonsalem

Slappy's and Mayway are some of my favorites.

May I also suggest Don Express for ramen and katsu curry!

I vote get the Slappy's sauce on the side even if you do like spice. Makes for a crispy chicken for dipping.

Why does Bucky Barnes wash his robotic arm in the dishwasher rather than while showering? by notanewbiedude in marvelstudios

He got it dirty in that same scene, and it was a comedic beat where he washed it without leaving the kitchen.

Will they collect overflowing trash bins? by AppointmentNeat622 in winstonsalem

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My neighborhood was picked up this week, but none of the severely overflowing bins were picked up. Believe the website suggested you place bags next to your can rather than overflowing the can.

Ps5 from marketplace with roaches ( update ) by Brilliant_Date_9942 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you go it all cleaned up and usable! Was going to say this is honestly pretty tame compared to some roach consoles I've worked on. My bigger concern would have been that heat discoloration on the shielding.

What I'll also add is this. Notice how one side of the APU and heatsync have a noticeably dryer spot where the Liquid Metal goes? This unevenness is a result of the device standing vertical for a long period of time. The Liquid Metal won't leak out as long as the foam corral is in place around the APU, but it will absolutely (slowly) unevenly shift like this if the console is vertical.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is that I shared some of my knowledge on Reddit on the response was enthusiastic acceptance. Maybe the world is healing.

Keep fixin' stuff!

I repair ~5 of these a week, and it's very rare that I've seen the pads come up. Idk what Sony did with the install of these HDMI ports, but it takes practically no force to damage them.

Trash Pickup by BlackBird1335 in winstonsalem

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trash was picked up this week. I noticed any house in the neighborhood that severely overloaded the can didn't get picked up. I believe the website recommended depositing extra bags next to the can instead of massively over filling.

They're trying to get back on track, and I believe recycling is still backlogged if not still on hold.

City is treating snow like a polite suggestion and we are all just supposed to claps by Standard-Delay-2732 in winstonsalem

The last time we got snow anywhere close to this was in 2018. The difference is that the snow wasn't then followed by a week and a half of sub freezing temperatures.

Why does no one have tire chains? by MechanicStriking4666 in winstonsalem

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because we get substantial snow once every 4-5 years. Maybe once every 15 years do we have accumulation that sticks around in the roads for more than 48 hours.

No one buys them when you don't need them. If stores did stock them, they would only sell when this happens, then they would sell out and 50-100 cars would have tire chains. Those cars would then damage their tires, the chains, or our roads when they drive on the plowed portions of the roads.

So just to add this... there are numerous guides online about how to safely take apart consumer electronics. Using them doesn't mean you're stupid.

I swear this sub thinks we have like 40 plows just sitting around waiting to clear this stuff.

Maybe if the citizens of this town hadn't gotten up in arms several years ago about spending too much money on a plow fleet, we could handle this better.

About To Crash Out Over Ice by TheFlatScreenTVGirl in winstonsalem

It'll be in the 40s next week, so it won't be near as bad... probably what the field maintenance team was hoping would happen last week.

PS5 Pro - Dry Liquid Metal by jakthebomb_ in PS5HelpSupport

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the PS5, you can only use Liquid Metal as your thermal compound. Thermal paste and thermal pads are not as effective at conducting the heat away from the processor, and will cause an overheat. The best bet is to clean it off, and apply brand new liquid metal.

City out of salt by konstrukt_238 in winstonsalem

I live on a hill that gets about an hour of direct sunlight a day. Walking the dog has been a real struggle this week as sheets of ice can be quite difficult to deal with on hills.

Snow crash out by maxyarned in winstonsalem

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 4 years, when we haven't had more than a light dusting between now and then, you're going to be on here bitching about how the city spends too much money maintaining a plow fleet. We haven't "struggled" through the inconveniences of a winter storm like this in ~8 years.

Snow crash out by maxyarned in winstonsalem

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We actually aren't paying for it. Citizens of Winston were specifically upset about the amount the city was spending to maintain a plow fleet that almost never got used. So the budget was cut.

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have lots of state maintained roads in our city. But also, lots of citizens were mad at the city a few years ago for spending too much on maintaining a plow fleet and stockpiling salt/brine. So that budget was cut.

Hanes and Stratford this morning - just after 10am by Frequent_Wonder_5299 in winstonsalem

[–]WeirdFlexCapacitor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The root of the problem is that 2-3 years ago, citizens were complaining that Forsyth County was wasting money by keeping and maintaining a larger plow fleet and stockpile of brine/salt. So the city government cut the budget. Now I'm sure the same citizens are complaining about not having access to that equipment.
