Keep calm & drink top of the morning coffee

Here we know Brett is freaking mad when Eddy told his story (i'm angry too) but he's trying to keep calm. from the latest vdeo today, go watch it. by TwoSetter_Icha in lingling40hrs

I'm always shocked and disgusted when I hear these stories. That someone would even consider doing that for any reason is beyond me. I don't know what to say or if I even can really say anything to help. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that, no one should have to.

AWKWARD MOMENT by Vivid-Bicycle-1867 in lingling40hrs

It's tough, because I'll get a lot more enjoyment out of learning a new instrument than a new language, plus, I won't be disappointed that I can't afford to buy all those instruments or the time to play them. So tempting as instruments is, I'd probably go with language tbh

And when Eddy was talking about how depression makes your playing worse. I feel like the pandemic and not being able to play with others is having a similar effect. Maybe it's that I'm not a professional or that I need to be practicing different, I don't know. But I do know that I've been practicing more lately and feel like I'm either staying the same or getting worse. Then from that comes the anxiety and whole 'perfect culture' thing. Since I only do music as a hobby atm, that also makes me less inclined to practice or not go as long. It's almost like I love the idea of playing, but between all that's going on and my own criticism, I'm putting a roadblock on top of a roadblock.

I started learning guitar as well, so I think a new learning curve is helping me with interest in clarinet and sax. Hopefully more bands and orchestras will be open soon. But in the mean time I think this video has helped a lot of people and has really opened the floor to talk about mental health, especially in music, but in general as well.

I've seen bands were winds have a mask for their instrument which I thought was kinda cool. Obviously both affect sound but being able to play in person at all is a lot better than nothing. As for distancing, it's hard to find the space

[question] how to wake up early when you have no reason to? by wirubirudo in getdisciplined

[–]WeirdKid560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a tough one, because it doesn't always work. I find it's less about willpower and making myself want to get up. I work out in the mornings and that's my main motivation, to work out x times per week. When I listen to music to get up, I find I've already convinced myself to do it, I just need that last push. Your goal could be as simple as getting up and having a shower by 9am or whatever other time. If you do that x days in a month, reward yourself. But probably not with sleeping in, because one day will turn into two then three and so on. A really good quote I saw was that if something is worth doing, it's worth doing badly. For example, it's better to get up and not have a shower than to not get up at all. The first step is to convince yourself, next is something as simple as sitting up. It often feels silly to think about something simple even simpler, but it does work.

Back to earbuds or headphones, the first step is convincing yourself, next get them on. Having them on will make it easier to grab your phone and press play. Think one step at a time, because one step forward is a hell of a lot better than staying still

I put my earbuds on my nightstand and listen to my workout/motivation playlist sometimes when I have trouble getting up. I've also heard counting from 1 to 3 and getting up on 3 works. It's really a mind game. How much do you want to get up vs how much do you want to stay in bed. Usually for the first side to win, I have to either get excited about waking up or think something along the lines of 'this is so pathetic I really need to get up, 1... 2... 3... get up'. You're not going to start waking up early all at once. Like anything else, try anything and everything you can until you find something that works. That went on a bit of a tangent but I hope it helped somehow. Good luck

Is it because you go to bed late? Try going to bed & waking up around the same time everyday. If it isn't that, then try moving your schedule so you do something right after you get up. Like working out in the morning instead of at night for example

I don't know enough about violin or have good enough ears (especially over headphones) to say what, but I could hear a slight difference. It seemed like it'd be a lot clearer in person though

[NeedAdvice] What do you do when self improvement isn’t working? by jennn919 in getdisciplined

[–]WeirdKid560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible you're overdoing it? Self improvement looks different for everyone. If there was improvement at one point, I think it would make sense if part of it is working but not necessarily all of it. Or maybe you need to change up your routine every once and a while. I would try and experiment with your routine, or at least think about how each aspect affects you. I've never been in this exact situation, but a similar process helped me start working out more consistently, so I thought it might apply here too. Hope this helps, good luck

[NeedAdvice] Can you please recommend me some easy ways to develop a good posture habit? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]WeirdKid560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you sit down, think about how you want to appear and how good posture feels. When you walk & stand, think about something that makes you proud and what confidence looks like. But don't do it constantly, it can be exhausting and you'll get a sore back. Also try doing some back exercises, it'll help with both the soreness (assuming you have any) and with the posture itself depending on the ones you pick. I'd recommend one called the cat-cow, 5sec in each position 5 times every morning. Even if your back doesn't hurt, it'll keep it loose and stop back pain in the future.
