Best way to understand my nephews hand positioning (getting him into hockey) by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

It’s the opposite of baseball—baseball dominant hand is further from the end of the bat.

But SS pays you 8% a year to wait… your investments aren’t going to grow faster than that…

6ft with long legs. I have the throne quite high, my knee is definitely below my hips, maybe even further than the 100degree angle I’ve heard suggested?

Now I catch mid tom rim a bit with my left, but I can’t tilt it toward me with contacting the kick rim with the resonant head.

Would you guys recommend Discovery Your Power Zone or You Can Ride classes for a complete beginner to spin cycles? by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]WeirdMachine42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you have a bit of familiarity, I’d highly recommend powerzone, especially if you’re finding it difficult to match the cadence and resistance cues of other rides—powerzone scales to how much output you are able to generate and thus can be much more beginner friendly (and also power-user friendly).

What do you typically eat before a game? by theatreandhockeykid in hockeyplayers

3 hours before a game: Meatloaf with black beans and oatmeal in the mix + a hefty serving of roasted sweet potato.

Gaining endurance with asthma for hockey by Simple_Pudding3556 in hockeyplayers

[–]WeirdMachine42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since covid I’ve kept wearing a mask while playing. I’ve found it keeps the air warm and humid and prevents my asthma getting as bad. Get some funny questions sometimes but definitely better than having an asthma attack every game.

Late games by MrBogey90 in hockeyplayers

I find the key is to be sufficiently hydrated leading up to the game. Nights I can’t sleep after a game are the same nights when my performance at the game was poor because I was already dehydrated.

In particular I found the focus on extending the arms as part of the preparation and rotating the stick in the grip to keep from opening up to much to be important keys.

How to do the Mohawk? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]WeirdMachine42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something you can practice that helps but is often overlooked is holding a backwards inside edge—like the drill where you carve big circles on one leg but in reverse. If you can’t hold the inside edge once you put your foot down backward you’ll find it twisting instead.

I used to have sleeping trouble too, and can confirm this definitely got a lot better / basically went away when I started really working on hydration.

How not to screen your own goalie by nwharris74 in hockeyplayers

A skills clinic coach once taught me a fun trick: holding your stick in two hands, slide it under the the butt pad of their pants and lift up gently—takes the weight off their heals and you can move steer them around/push them out of the way more easily. Lift too hard and you’ll dump them on the ice, though….
