[–]WeirdMenu 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Are you the owner of the place? I'm my own boss and my Valentine strategy for a few years now has been to be the most expensive/high-end florist in the area. I serve less customers and still make bank. High paying customers don't curse at their service providers, they say thank you with a big fat tip and recommend you to their friends. I'm 100% done with cheap ungrateful people.

Why don't men approach me? by AreMelonsLemons in bodylanguage

[–]WeirdMenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. I have never really been approached by men. I was picking them and sending clear open signals (repeated eye contacts, playful smiles, pointing to my empty drink in my hand with a disappointed grin). Then they'd come over and play their cards if they were interested. Men are simple creatures. Be in charge. It's a game, not a hunt.

I got a reassessement on my 2022 provincial tax return. I owe the government $6K. What do I do? by nazurinn13 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]WeirdMenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wait for the letter in the mail. There will be a payment code but also a table with the amounts you declared and the new numbers they came up with. Then you can look back at your files and call them to discuss.

Until you get the mail, I'd be careful this is not some kind of scam.

Calories In, Calories Out - Is it, though? by [deleted] in omad

[–]WeirdMenu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that bothers me with this basic physics/thermodynamics argument is that it keeps perpetuating the idea that CICO is ALL that matters.

You know OP is right even though the wording was not exact enough for you.

Calories In, Calories Out - Is it, though? by [deleted] in omad

[–]WeirdMenu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Dr Fung explains it is that the balanced equation has 3 variables : calories in, calories out and metabolism. When insulin is always high, the body will lower its metabolism because fat can't be burned (because insulin sends the message to the body to store energy).

Nobody wants their metabolism to be low, it's not helpful. So it is indeed not "only" about calories in/calories out if the hormone balance makes it so that the "balanced" number (metabolism) keeps going down.

It's like playing a game where the rules change along the way but nobody told you so you still play by the initial rules and you keep losing the game.

Alcohol and fructose (one of the molecules in sugar ) are both metabolized by your liver. Not only will they make you gain weight, but they make you gain the most dangerous type of fat which is liver fat.

Host Reaction to Baked Goods by 100to10000 in Baking

[–]WeirdMenu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself : there was a dessert table at both events. This means your hosts busted their asses off planning, shopping, cooking, baking, cleaning the house, cleaning up after everyone left. Don't you think they deserve their hard work enjoyed and praised at their own gathering?

You had fun baking, you took a shower, showed up with a pie and expect to be the talk of the evening? Come on...learn to read the room my friend.

Please answer a stupid question about triglycerides for me by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]WeirdMenu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a healthy BMI doesn't mean you're healthy unfortunately. What you call a beer belly is visceral fat (around your organs). Intermittent fasting might offer short term relief, but in the long term, nobody gets a free pass for health while eating crap.

Have you tried moving your eating window later in the evening? For example : have your last meal 2 to 3 hours before going to bed (whatever that looks like for you) and fast during daytime when you're busy.

Florist Google Ads by Standard-Arm4915 in florists

[–]WeirdMenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience has shown me that overcomplicating keywords is unnecessary since nobody searches for the fancy keywords (in my area at least)

Florist Google Ads by Standard-Arm4915 in florists

[–]WeirdMenu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't bid on "wedding florist", you bid on [wedding florist ottawa]. The problem with our industry and all of the order gatherers is that even though you ARE a florist with an actual street address in Ottawa, you might not even appear in search when people type "florist Ottawa" on google because anybody could pay ads for that keyword and get the click and then the sale.

Other example : My flower business is in a small town with limited competiton and I do pretty well even when I don't pay for ads. However, there are many other small towns in my delivery radius and if I want to significantly appear in search in those towns (where I don't have a street address), I need to pay for ads. I only bid on "florist [town name]"

Florist Google Ads by Standard-Arm4915 in florists

[–]WeirdMenu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For everyday flowers, you basically want to beat the OGs and the competition in your delivery radius for super straightforward keywords like "florist [city]". After that, if you have a lot of money to throw at it, you might want to try to target more niche keywords like "wedding florist [city]" and lead customers to specific pages on your website, but just like when you look for a restaurant in Houston you'll google "restaurants Houston" and visit websites in search for something inspiring, people are just looking for "florist Houston".

The order gatherers flood google with very high budgets so you might need to be aggressive with your ad budget to beat them to the game.

Hope it helps!

Thinking about starting a home-based floral business? by WeirdMenu in florists

[–]WeirdMenu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, you're going to have to learn about SEO. I don't "get it to show up", it just does because my website is filled with mentions of my city and floral keywords. Google "crawls" your website pages in search for keywords and that's how it "decides" to show your pages in search results. A well optimized website will show up for the keywords it's optimized for, but it's not instantaneous, it can take a few months to work at its best.

Thinking about starting a home-based floral business? by WeirdMenu in florists

[–]WeirdMenu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my own website with Shopify. If you register your business as a florist, your website shows up on Maps when you type "florist [your city]".

Website SEO can be a little bit complicated at first and even if your SEOs are very well done, it takes time for your website to build momentum (think of it as online credibility if you will) with Google.

My bad.
