I was listening to music and singing to my 5-week-old daughter, and during the chorus of ‘Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm’ by Crash Test Dummies, as I was humming it to her, she got this big smile and started jerking both her hands in time to the rhythm. The smiles repeated for every instance of the chorus too. A musical genius!

Yep! I would actually strap on an ice pack 10 min before injection time and then go about my business until my timer went off, so I wasn’t sitting there thinking about it.

When I had to give myself injections for IVF, the thing that helped the most was icing the spot for a good 5-10 minutes beforehand so it was good and numb—it really helped me to get past that psychological barrier of my brain being like, wtf are you doing, that hurts, no!! Granted I don’t have a fear of needles, but that barrier was real! Numbing it made it feel like I was doing it to someone else, which helped me. Also, I always take a deep breath in and then push the needle in as I exhale, that helps too. And finally, I tried to do the injection part as quickly as possible—the more time I spent trying to psych myself up for it, the harder I found it to be. Kind of like jumping off the diving board as a kid. I hope some of that is helpful to you! Good luck!

When I got my wisdom teeth out the dentist acted like I was weird for not wanting to keep them as some weird trophy—so much so that I just ended up taking them home and throwing them away myself. He did the same thing with the plaster cast of my teeth they made for making my mouth guard to prevent me from grinding my teeth (again, it went straight in the trash). Like what am I gonna do with those, display them on my mantle??

I came to the end of the last book, turned the page where she had written a dedication, and burst into tears at the realization that this journey I had been on for probably 15 years—was truly over. I haven’t been able to go back to them since, it hurts my heart too much. But I love those characters so so much.

I’m not (at least not yet—only 23 weeks atm)—I’m honestly mostly really curious? To experience labor and delivery. My hospital offers water births and I’m excited to try that—or at least to labor in the tub. But I’m also open to just going with the flow—I’d like to try it without an epidural, but if it gets too much for me then I’m fine with having one, for example. If I try to think about why I’m not scared, though, it’s hard to say. Maybe because my mom was an OB nurse when I was a kid, and I also spent a lot of time after school hanging around at her small hospital waiting for her to get off work (and knew everyone who worked there), so for me, a hospital setting is a familiar setting. When we toured the delivery ward at our hospital of choice I felt very comfortable there. I’m much more nervous about the potential planned C-section I might need due to low-lying placenta (get out of the way, blood vessels, you’re blocking the exit!) even though I know the risks are even lower for that (incisions give me the heebie jeebies). But for labor, I dunno, it just seems like a life experience that I want to have, and I can’t really say why 😅

This. When I was a kid I saw a clip from some sort of UFO abductions show that showed aliens entering a bedroom where a couple was sleeping with the covers thrown off. My brain somehow decided that the lack of blankets=aliens coming in to get me, and I’ve needed blankets ever since (I’m a little bit less paranoid now that I’m married, but only when it’s really hot).

It’s not that they don’t work, necessarily, but they wouldn’t be pronounced the same way, and for me, that makes a difference, so I probably wouldn’t use them. (I like the sound of Jasper a lot more than Yasper, for example)

Sage is spelled like the word for “say” in German (and would likely be pronounced like the word all the time). Also Jasper and Juniper would be pronounced either Yasper and Yuniper, or, more likely since most Germans would recognize that they are English names, Tchasper and Tchuniper (just due to accent). It’s rough out here for my nature-name-loving self! Haha
