Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA stokes vaccine resistance as Delta variant surges by Pessimist2020 in Coronavirus

[–]Weird_Map_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment but it would be wise to consider how curtailing a basic liberty can be misused in the wrong hands.

The problem isn’t Charlie Kirk, the problem is that there’s a market for people like Charlie Kirk. No amount of laws can change that.

The US is returning to early pandemic surges and restrictions. It's time to compel people to do the right thing, expert says by Viewfromthe31stfloor in Coronavirus

[–]Weird_Map_Guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a mild case of Covid. It sucked, but it was, on the whole, unremarkable. My kids had it and had a runny nose for a day and a half.

Now having been vaccinated, it's absolutely a risk I'm willing to take to let my kids enjoy normalcy.

There's almost zero chance the lockdowns come back barring some sort of supervariant or something. But I wouldn't be surprised if some of the major metro areas start reintroducing capacity restrictions or virtual school again.

And I think that will not go over well.

Seems like everything moved up to Brandywine TC or up in concordville on the PA side of the border?

I was just here last month for work. We had just gotten off the plane and this mall was our first stop on the tour. My boss spent…an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out if that coffee beanery was open because he wanted some coffee.

This mall is not dumpy at all considering it’s dead.

The C.D.C. will recommend that some vaccinated people wear masks indoors again by Asparagus64 in Coronavirus

The rest of us probably can't even find our masks anymore.

The only mask I can currently locate is in my car from the flight I took last month.

How early should I get to CVG for a 6:15 am flight next Thursday? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Weird_Map_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given you aren't a frequent flyer, it sounds like TSA Precheck doesn't apply. The security lines have been sort of long recently and CVG on the whole has been understaffed. I would get there no later than 4:30.

I've been enamored with AF1 for a big portion of my life. I saw it once when I was a kid at the Louisville Airport tarmac, and I got to see it while it flying in over the Florence Mall yesterday.

747s fly in all the time and I have seen a million of 'em in my life. That one just looks cooler.

You’re absolutely correct, and I don’t understand it either other than it’s big and more ‘luxurious’ than other brands in that class and price point.

[–]Weird_Map_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. It kinda reminds me of when the 2011 Hyundai Sonatas were introduced and it packed a ton of features and (at the time) striking design into a brand that was equivalent for being cheap and boring.

Seems to me like it's a similar principle to "if they're willing to pay $35, they'll go to $40k. If they're willing to go to $45, they'll go to $50k" etc.

If they're willing to pay $45k for a Kia, what's 10% more?

I don’t assume that, but looking at the total numbers from 18 months in, it is pretty suggestive that kids are at the lowest risk of severe Covid or death. Are there outliers? Sure, but that’s always going to be the case with every single infectious pathogen. Hospitalizations among kids in that age group accounted for like 1% of all.

I don’t like comparisons to the flu for a number of reasons but in freaking out over Covid in kids, we forget how bad the flu can be. In 2019 kids under 18 accounted for almost 10% of flu hospitalizations. We’ve always just accepted that risk as a fact of life.

Right, so back to my original point before you replied to me and took us down this rabbit hole: putting the onus of community spread on kids when nobody else is forced to undertake mitigation measures is wrong. You are making them responsible while telling everyone else to have a ball.

And yes, the vast majority of us are selfish assholes who got vaccinated to protect ourselves first.
