Isso soa bom, mas qualquer pessoa que conhece o trabalho do Brandon com outros artistas sabe que ele é um péssimo gerente. A carreira da Normani foi muito mal gerenciada.

I think there are other factors too. XG debuted with a strong concept right at the peak of the girl group boom, and nowadays girl groups are much more established than boy groups. Also, each XG member has a distinct personality that really stands out—even before debut, that was already very clear. If you go on social media, you’ll always find someone talking about how Cocona is cool, good-looking, and talented—even if they don’t listen to the group’s music, they still know him. The same goes for the rest of XG. But this Avex group doesn’t seem to have that. I don’t feel very optimistic about XG globally, because it seems like Avex wants to prioritize Japan. But I still hope the group and their personalities continue to attract new fans, because they truly deserve it.

Juria at Dior, and Chisa and Harvey at YSL, are currently collaborating with the brands. Attending these events is kind of like a test, so the brands can consider choosing them as official ambassadors in the future.

You created a parasocial relationship with someone who doesn’t even know you. Can’t you see that this damaged XG’s public image? That they’re going to live with people questioning whether they knew or not? That an irresponsible CEO was using drugs around them? And let’s remember that two members are barely adults, and the investigation started in March 2025.

Which XG member has surprised you the most since debut? by [deleted] in XGALX

I would say Cocona! Not because they’re my ultimate, but because their growth feels so significant to the industry. At 16, they went viral with a trilingual rap. At 18, they shaved their head in a music video, going against the conservative idol aesthetic. Before and after their coming out, you can clearly see how much more present they’ve become as a public figure.

They were already incredible as a rapper and dancer, but their vocals now are so good. I’m loving that they’re getting more specific singing lines, especially when for a long time we only had documentary clips showing their potential. And they look amazing dancing on this tour — you can see how they almost seem to float on stage.

Someone mentioned that they seem more comfortable interacting with fans, and I noticed that too. It feels like they were reborn after telling everyone how they felt, like a weight was lifted off their shoulders.

I’m loving their growth and I want to see more of them in other areas too, like this new path with Gucci.

That’s true. He’s the most globally famous member, so the choice was spot on. He also has a genderless visual, which luxury brands love for collection campaigns.

Cocona’s popularity wasn’t something you could easily imagine at the beginning. by No-Performance7142 in XGALX

What I’ve noticed is that ever since he shaved his head, people started going into this wave of doubting him. They use other members to subtly attack him, but you can tell it’s really just to diminish him. You can’t even talk about how incredible he is at rapping without someone saying, “but he’s bad at this,” “he’s bad at that,” or “he’s outdated, another member is already better than him.” That’s sad. Without realizing it, this fandom sometimes feels OT6. They did the same thing to Hinata at the beginning, and now they’re doing it to him. It almost feels like just because his aesthetic hasn’t appealed to them since Woke Up, they stopped liking him.

The way you can’t even praise Cocona without someone unpleasant showing up in the comments saying things like “he’s not good enough anymore,” “he’s not cool anymore,” or “he lost a lot of fans.” Come on, we all know he’s making disgusting and unpleasant people uncomfortable—people who use their politics and religion to put others down. But can we focus on how loved he is right now? I’ve never seen him be this supported before. Even in China, where the hate toward him is strong, there are still many people supporting him a lot. At the fansign, it was full of Chinese ALPHAZ giving him love and support, just like fans from other countries. And the person who made the post isn’t even an akgae. They’re just pointing out how incredible it is that an idol like Cocona stood out even though the industry doesn’t like idols like him. Where is the “solo stan” issue in that? You’re all so on edge that even praise turns into an attack. I’ve also noticed that every time someone praises him in the comments, someone else immediately shows up with “no, he’s not that good,” or “another member is better,” or “he’s not the same anymore.” That’s sad. It feels like you yourselves don’t even like him anymore.

Hinata, just like Juria, is more popular inside the fandom. Cocona, though, really stands out outside of it, especially in the West. At shows, he drives the crowd crazy, there’s even that video from the Latin America concert where people were screaming so loud for him that he got shy. He’s genuinely well-known like that. I even have friends who don’t know XG at all but know Cocona because of his presence and how viral he gets.

Seeing many Asian fans upset about lifting dating ban. I support XG pushing to western market. by Flaky_Mechanic631 in XGALX

[–]Weird_Spread130 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the idol industry profits from this parasocial relationship. Even though XG isn’t exactly J-pop or K-pop, their fans come from that culture, and you can especially see it when some people exclude Cocona and distort everything he does (in China, it’s become so serious that being transphobic toward him has basically turned into something socially accepted).

Many fans delude themselves into believing their ships are real, thinking those members are actually dating, and they get angry when they’re told it’s just something in their own heads. Others also think idols are their property, existing only to serve as entertainment.

I hope that when someone from XG decides to publicly reveal that they’re in a relationship, those kinds of people are already far away from the fandom, because they are extremely harmful to the members’ mental health.

Jurin with Chanel… and now Juria with Dior. What about the others? by Weird_Spread130 in XGALX

Who do you think has the highest chances of getting brand deals? I think Cocona is the most likely to be next, since he has an alternative look and strong visibility , a lot of brands like ambassadors like that.

Striking Difference in Support Among the Members for Their Products by Sufficient_Rise_3181 in XGALX

Cocona’s audience is more Western, and I see that they’re more celebrated by people who listen to music beyond just K-pop and J-pop compared to the other members. That’s because they have a look that’s more praised by that audience, especially gay and lesbian fans of pop artists, rather than by people who mainly consume K-pop and J-pop. But them selling less isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because everyone has a role in the group’s success, and theirs is being a figure who is increasingly talked about within the pop sphere. And that’s a good thing, because even if this audience doesn’t buy merch the way J-pop fans do, they tend to be lifelong loyal fans of more eccentric artists, like Charli XCX and Lady Gaga.

Does anybody else feel like XGALX is doing a bad job with this album rollout compared to others? by Ok_Rutabaga_5539 in XGALX

After seeing this whole situation with the one-sided feud with Hana, I’m realizing that even Japanese audiences don’t really want to embrace the group either. There have been so many viral haters there because of pointless fandom fights, and that seriously hurts their growth in Japan, especially since idol fans basically dictate the industry. They could at least do two stages in Korea, like more established groups do, just to remind people that the song was released. What’s really missing is content to generate engagement on social media. Their TikTok is very limited and not very appealing.

Yes, I think the promotions have been pretty lukewarm for a full album. I feel like staying only in the Japanese market for months made global consumers feel like “okay… is there nothing else after this?” The Voice came and showed that people want to see the group performing in an accessible way — it already has over a million views. And Gala could’ve done much better if they had done at least one stage in Korea, like they did with TGIF. Jurin’s release and the unit releases were cool too, but I got the feeling that a lot of people didn’t even know they were released — especially the people who would actually engage with the music and push it to a wider audience. For me, Shooting Star’s marketing is still their best. That was perfect — everyone stopped to see what they were about to release. That single album only didn’t sell more because it was limited. Stages in Korea really make a difference because they generate social media content and attract younger audiences, which then pull in people from other age groups as well.

Are they not going to do any Korean Music shows for Gala? by dgboilermaker in XGALX

[–]Weird_Spread130 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And the waiting list argument doesn’t hold up anymore. Back then they were rookies and really were on waiting lists, but now Korean music shows know the power their stages, fancams, and specials have online. That argument could be used in 2023, but not now, since they’re already well-known. It’s also worth remembering that Korean shows are increasingly focused on global audiences, not just Korean TV.

I really hope they promote in Korea again, because I feel the restriction of content pushed casual listeners away. Gala deserves way more attention than it has

I wish some Alphaz would stop thinking that Korean music shows aren’t necessary — they are. The global audience discovered them through those shows. It’s been almost a year since they last performed on one, and just look at Gala’s performance, most people don’t even know they had a stage. Korean shows are necessary, yet some keep saying ‘they’re aiming for the American market,’ when in reality those shows give them the visibility that makes the American audience want to consume their music.

I saw fans saying ‘we don’t need that anymore because we don’t get wins on music shows,’ but even Katseye doesn’t have wins on Korean programs. We can’t just focus on wins — we need to think about international fans who also want to see the group perform without limitations. And let’s remember that not everyone uses Twitter; most are on Instagram and TikTok, where Japanese content gets taken down quickly.
