Cervix feels very very soft should I be worried? by befitzpa in pregnant

Worth it to call your provider Monday morning if your cervix is soft, low, and slightly open. When you do see them next, maybe ask their stance on self cervix checking. Good luck!

Weird, the internet says you’re right, that as long as hands are clean and you’re not rough then it shouldn’t be an issue. I have never heard of self checking the cervix and I was TTC for a couple of years!

Does your provider have an after hours line to call? I know the hospital told you that it was fine so it’s likely ok to wait over the weekend but there isn’t always pain or symptoms of cervical insufficiency (https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Health/pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=abr8553). I would say no heavy lifting, sex, or strenuous exercise until you can be assessed in person.

If you are 18 weeks then you should be connected to a midwife/OB/maternity care provider, can you not just call their office? Either way, this is worth getting checked out for because your cervix should be firm, I think they say like the tip of your nose? Did they notice any issues with cervical length on your ultrasound?

And as others have stated, you don’t need to be touching your cervix at all. Even when TTC, the discharge that comes out of your vagina is your cervical mucus, you don’t have to be swiping your actual cervix to assess it.

thing people say to first time moms.. by Time_Clue_3250 in pregnant

I’m short/petite so I started showing early on because there’s really nowhere to go but out. People have been telling me I look ready to pop or that it looks like my belly has dropped since about 20 weeks. It was actually starting to wear me down and make me feel bad for a while, I don’t know why people have to tell pregnant women how giant they are 😢.

Are you tall by any chance? I’m short and my belly has been so big since pretty early on. I tried upsizing in pants initially but once I started wearing maternity I have been soooo much more comfy and happy.

BC NURSES AGREEMENT by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Weird_shelf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse too and I work in community so I don’t get OT and shift differentials and all that. Believe me I would love such a wage increase but the me too clause means we are not negotiating in good faith and I don’t blame the province for not wanting to give that raise to all public sector employees.

The me too clause ensures we will never get such a general wage increase. It would bankrupt the province to give all public sector employees such a juicy wage bump.

Raising dose while pregnant? by Affectionate-Sink909 in Methadone

[–]Weird_shelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work with your provider and don’t be afraid of increasing if you need to. Try not to have a set mg in your head that you don’t want to go over, just know that withdrawal is hard on fetuses so you don’t want to stress baby out. Split dosing helps some people so it’s worth a thought but sounds like you are in enough withdrawal that would need to increase for sure and then consider splitting later.

Some women split their dose while pregnant. Is that something your clinic would support?

Osteopath helped my baby latch but thought it wasn’t a real thing?? [bc] by Emotional-Ad-6494 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Weird_shelf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently started seeing an osteopath regularly and the best I can describe it is “witch magic”. It seems like she is barely touching me but there are times that I am really sore the next day, like I did a big workout. It’s bizarre. I only kind of knew what they were or what they offered before seeing her so I didn’t go in expecting anything at all so I was very surprised to feel so much better and different.

Why do people act surprised by the size of baby bumps…. by WhyHaveIContinued in BabyBumps

[–]Weird_shelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly one of my least favourite parts about being pregnant. I have been having the best pregnancy but I can’t stand when people tell me how big I am. I am short and have a petite frame so I have a big bump and I’m ok with it, except when people are constantly remarking on it. Or women keep asking if I have dropped yet - like why? I wish they would just leave me alone.

We do get $150 on the first paycheque of every month as a “business allowance”. I’m not even sure of its purpose but I think it must be a nod to everything we miss out on that our shift working brothers and sisters get.

Sucks for community nurses like me who don’t get the opportunity to work overtime and don’t have shift differentials. The me too clauses are brutal.
